I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. – Psalm 139:14

Minister and Psalmist Linda Diane Thompson was born to the late David and Hattie Cobb Thompson, Sr in Portsmouth, Virginia on March 12, 1967. She transitioned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Portsmouth Rehabilitation Center. Linda graduated from Manor High School and continued her collegiate studies at Commonwealth Community College majoring in Computer Science, Tidewater Community College majoring in Business, Portsmouth Beauty School studying Cosmetology, and Holy Light Bible College Theology studying History and the Old Testament.

Minister and Psalmist Linda Thompson enjoyed deep and engaging conversation – in person or on the phone. She was a great listener, gave the best advice and offered the sincerest encouragement. A favorite pastime of hers was watching TV, too. She enjoyed a plethora of television programs: Andy Griffith, The Price is Right, The Voice, the news and local PBS programming. She was gifted in many areas. She was a singer, poet, preacher, cook, fashion expert, makeup artist, and hair stylist. She was also employed as a telemarketer and a Certified Nursing Assistant. Linda was a mere 4’8”, but she had an angelic, soulful voice. When she opened her mouth to sing, you’d get goosebumps. You could feel the power and love in every note she sung. Also, she was a talented poet. Oftentimes, she would find a piece of paper and write a masterpiece on the spot. Her words came effortlessly from her mind onto paper. She published a book of poems called Stretchmarks in 2006. It is a chosen collection that discussed: God, beauty and pain, joy and sorrow, love and healing, relationships, and family. She had a flair for personal styling, too. She could coordinate the perfect ensemble from head to toe, from the perfect hairstyle, flawless makeup, outfit and accessories. She wanted to make sure the hues of her makeup and outfit accented her beautiful, chocolate complexion perfectly.

Minister and Psalmist Linda Thompson welcomed Jesus Christ into her life as a young girl at C. H. Mason Memorial COGIC. Through her father’s ministering, she followed him at Garden of Prayer #4, Church of Deliverance, Gilmerton First Baptist Church, and New Mt. Zion COGIC. She loved God and she loved church. She enjoyed fellowship and using her voice to sing praises to the Lord. She was a member of Power to Deliver Healing Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Karen Cherry-Cole in Chesapeake, Virginia. She thrived and blossomed under the leadership there. She was always ready to pray and preach. As a servant of the Lord, Linda carried her ministerial gifts and joined Turning Points Christian Ministries under the leadership Pastor Lopez Scott in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was an Executive Committee Member, the Praise and Worship Leader, and she taught Children’s Sunday school.

Minister and Psalmist Linda Thompson was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Reginald and Byron and 2 sisters, Shirley and Bernadette Thompson.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted brother David Thompson, Jr, 2 nephews Charles Richard (Julie) and David Richard (Tiswana) and 2 nieces Mary Thompson and Rachel Thompson and a host of relatives and friends.

I am so saddened by the passing of my high school classmate! I knew Linda since grade school and have always known her as very kind-hearted. She loved to laugh and was always pleasant to be around.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of her family and friends. May God bless and keep you during this time of transition.
