Linda H. Bell

Sunrise: October 26, 1949

Sunset: May 15, 2018

I report that this journey between life and death has not only been a glorious one, but a blessed one. On Tuesday, May 15, 2018, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Linda Bell transitioned to the welcoming arms of her Heavenly Father.

Linda, was born on October 26, 1949 on Washington Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Herman Coleman and Louise Spellman.  Her greatest support in human flesh was Earnest, her beloved husband of nearly 49 years, father of Tanya, Earnest Jr. and Duron.

Linda, graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1968.  Linda volunteered as a candy striper at Norfolk Community Hospital where she gained her love for serving people.  As a young woman she was gold award senior girl scout and a debutante.  She began her working life at Bell Atlantic, but was quickly drawn into her life long passion for fashion.  As Linda’s family began to grow, so did her burgeoning seamstress business.  She was a highly skilled tailor, crafting everything from bespoke men’s suits, countless wedding gowns and custom garments.  She owned and operated Linda’s Especially For You, located in Portsmouth, VA for over 20 years.  Linda loved and was loved by her loyal customers.

As a young child, Linda attended Antioch Baptist Church In Norfolk, Virginia.    As a young adult, she attended New Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Milton R. Reid Sr., where she was the youth director.  She also attended Rock Church under the leadership of the late John Jimenez where she served in the children’s ministry.   In 1991, she became a member of Calvary Revival Church under the leadership of Courtney McBath where she also served in the Children’s ministry.  Linda joined her dear friend Anne Young in supporting, Saints Community C.O.G.I.C under the direction of Pastor Darryl Holt.  Most recently her passion for the Portsmouth community, drew her to the work of Rev. Dr. Yvonne Wright-Dunn of The Birthing Place Worship Center.

Linda is predeceased by sister Gloria Spellman O’Connor and her brother Osie Spellman.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children Tanya Walker (Chris) of Chesapeake, Virginia, Earnest Bell (Ericka) of Greensboro, North Carolina, DuRon Bell (Corinne) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her sisters Alice Tappe of Chesapeake, Virginia, Paula Long of Norfolk, Virginia, Sharon Wyatt of Maryland,  Herman Coleman Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Stanley (Glenda) Coleman Sr. of Chesapeake; her five grandchildren  Ashala, Benjamin, Christian, Christiana, Cyla; her adopted sisters E. Doreatha Joyner (Dennis) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dianne (Johnny) Bacon,  Glynis (Rudolph) Mason and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

May the God of tender mercies(Psalm 83:18) comfort you for the days ahead. Often times we cant find the right words to express how we feel giving way to tears. Christs too gave way to tears. Just as he raised his friend, he has promised to do the same for our loved ones, may those verses bring you much comfort, John 11:11-14; 17-26

My condolences and prayers go out to the Bell and Coleman family. Linda and I grew up in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church when it was on Fenchurch and Holt Streets and when the church relocated to the Berkley Section of Norfolk. Also, she and I graduated in the BTW Class of 1968. Linda always greeted you with a loving smile . As a Godly woman, she allowed her light to shine that men could see her good works, so they could glorify God. (Paraphrase: Matt 5:16) May the works she’s done speak for her. Be blessed.

My prayers go out to all of the family. Sis. Linda was one of the first people I met when I joined the Children’s Ministry at Calvary Revival Church over 20 years ago. Her love, warmth, guidance and no-nonsense demeanor was a tremendous blessing to me and my family. I have always admired her as an entrepreneur and the excellence and beauty of all she offered in her establishment. I will always cherish the time I served with her and though I know hearts are sad and she will be greatly missed, I have no doubt she is rejoicing with our Savior Much love and peace and comfort to the family and friends of this beautiful lady.

Can I simply say what a relief to find an individual who really understands what they’re discussing over the internet. You actually understand how to bring a problem to light and make it important. A lot more people have to check this out and understand this side of your story. I was surprised you’re not more popular since you most certainly possess the gift.
