On Friday, December 20, 2019, our loved one was called from labor to reward at the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in Chesapeake, VA. Lillie “Eudora” Washington was bom December 31, 1941 in Emporia, VA to the late General Lee and Allie B. Sykes. She was predeceased not only by her parents, but siblings: Nellie B. and Mary Frances (twins), Alvin (twin of Calvin), Norris, as well as her husband, Thendoll “Peter” Washington.
Eudora was educated in the public schools of Greensville County and graduated from E. W. Wyatt High in Emporia, VA. Several years after high school, Thendoll and Eudora exchanged wedding vows. They were happily married 32 years before his demise. From this union, two sons were bom, Carlos “Todd” and Richard.
At an early age this young lady accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Mars Hill Baptist Church in Emporia, VA where parents and other family members worshipped Almighty God. The late Rev. C. M. Morgan was the Pastor. Upon relocating to Norfolk, VA with her husband, Eudora became an active member of Abyssinia Baptist Church at 2818 Colley Avenue, where Rev. Dr. Frank Guns was Pastor. Since singing was one of her passions, Eudora joined the choir ministry, Pastor’s Aide and Floral Ministry thereby being a faithfully servant until her health began to decline. Upon the decline of her health and inability to travel, she served in local churches namely First Baptist Church – West Munden and New Galilee Baptist Church in Chesapeake, which were closer to her place of residence.
Eudora’s time of employment consisted of an assortment of jobs; being an excellent housekeeper was one, another included being a data processor/key punch operator at Systems Management, Inc. Being a dedicated and compassionate caregiver for family and friends was definitely another one of Eudora’s favorite jobs. She took care of her mother, served as babysitter in her youth to siblings, younger cousins, and others. Loving and caring for people was her greatest strength, while also, preparing delicious meals for the family. To God be the Glory!
Left to cherish her precious memories are sons, Carlos and Richard Washington, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters: Minister Bessie Allen of Richmond, VA; Dawn Marie Brothers (Clyde) of Chesapeake, VA; five brothers: Minister Lonzell Sykes of Chesapeake, VA; Joe Dennis Sykes of Norfolk, VA; James Sykes of Hampton, VA; Calvin Sykes of Sussex, VA; and Minister Reginald Sykes (Marsha) of Chesapeake, VA; one aunt: Lizzie Rean James of Skippers, VA; one uncle: Lamey L. Parham of Columbia, MO; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in-law, church members, and friends.
Someday we’ll be together again; until then, rest in peace. Lovingly, The Family

May you look to Jesus for comfort and healing during this very difficult time. Philippians 4:7 states: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
