Levinia Elliott Goodman

Sunrise: November 26, 1932

Sunset: June 18, 2025

Levinia Elliott Goodman was born on November 26, 1932, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late James Henry Elliott and Mary Epps Elliott. She was the last survivor of her thirteen siblings. She was raised in Philadelphia, PA from the age of three by her uncle and aunt, the late Mr. and Mrs. James Williams.

Eventually, she moved to Norfolk VA, met and married her first husband, the late James Bunch, Sr. Patricia A. Betty of Kissimmee, Florida was the result of that union. Later, she married the late Marvin Goodman, Sr. They had one son, the late Marvin Goodman, Jr., and one daughter, the late Delores Goodman.

Levinia completed her high school education in Norfolk, VA. She received training in Criminal Justice for Juvenile Services from the University of North Carolina and served as supervisor with the Norfolk, VA Detention Home on the Less-Secure Unit. She retired from the Juvenile Services.

In 1954, Levinia joined the First Trinity A.M.E. Church in Virginia Beach, VA where she served as Steward, Trustee, Class Leader, President and 1st Vice President of the Missionary Society. In 1980, Levinia joined New St. John A.M.E. church in Virginia Beach, VA. She held several positions including the Tidewater/Peninsula Region Lay and a member of the Virginia Conference Lay Organization. She was also a Life Member of the Virginia Conference Branch Society.

Levinia was active in the Lake Edwards Civic League.

She enjoyed gardening, especially her roses. We will also remember her culinary talents– homemade rolls, sweet potato pies, and a variety of delicious cakes. The family will always fondly remember being with her at the family cookouts and reunions.

Levinia will be dearly missed by her daughter, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

We are deeply indebted to those who supported Levenia during her last days–Pastor Morris Reddon, Jr., Associate Minister Chester Rouse, Richard Bullocks, Nicole Elliott, Sandra White, Rose Williams, Aldred Foreman, and any others that we may have missed. A special thanks also goes to Maria Mercado of Ruth’s Care who provided comfort for Luvenia during her last days under hospice care.

The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to all in attendance for her service.
