Lessie M. Stevens, 88, of Portsmouth, Virginia quietly departed this life on April 06, 2024 surrounded by family.
Lessie was born to Walter and Ellen Parker on September 13, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the youngest of four. She was a native of Norfolk, Virginia and Chesapeake, Virginia. She received her education from Norfolk County School System. She later married William H. Stevens Sr., and had ten children (one preceding her in death). She later moved to Portsmouth, Virginia. She worked in Portsmouth Public School System where she retired.
At an early age, Lessie accepted Christ in her life. She was a member of Divine Baptist Church where she attended Sunday school she served on the Usher Board, Senior Choir, Senior Ministry, Senior Missionary, and work in the church kitchen. She served in whatever capacity until her health began to decline.
Lessie was absolutely a Loving, Enthusiastic, Sassy, Supportive, Intelligent, Elegant individual. Most of all she was a no nonsense person. She loved her family and loved to cook. She would prepare all types of foods, and enjoy seeing people eating and enjoying themselves. She always had family and friends over, she made everyone feel welcome, everyone was family to her. Her family is tight because of the way she raised them to always be there for one another, never to turn their backs on each other. She would do anything that she could to help anyone, she would never see anyone outside or hungry. Lessie, the true definition of STRENGTH.
