BM1 Leroy R. Thompkins, Boatswain Mate First Class USN was born to the late Robert and Winnie Thompkins. He was the oldest child of eight children. Leroy was a Cub Scout, Eagle Scout, and an Explorer. Leroy left Cleveland, Ohio in 1961 to join the Navy. He met and married the love of his life Dorothy Thompkins in 1966. He is survived by his wife Dorothy M. Thompkins of 50 plus years, and son Bobby (Robert) Lewis Thompkins (Dennise) of Maryland; Two daughters Vatonia Rae Gray (Rowdy) of Bedford, Ohio; and Latania Janetta Thompkins of Norfolk, VA; six grandchildren; one brother Robert, five sisters Joann, Willa, Mary and Patricia; Extended family and friends.
BM1 Leroy R. Thompkins, Boatswain Mate First Class USN served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years. After Leroy retired he became a Police Officer at the Norfolk Navy Base. Leroy and Dorothy liven in South Carolina and moved to other States through out his career. Leroy retired in Norfolk, VA where he and his wife lived until his death on July 11, 2019. Leroy was a member in excellence standing at the Deep Creek Elk Lodge, Chesapeake, VA. Former member of Berkley Elk Lodge No. 12 in Norfolk, VA. President of Big and Tall Club of Norfolk. Leroy enjoyed life as he lived, including fishing and old school rhythm and blues.
