Leonard Lee Clark, Jr drifted peacefully into eternal rest on March 1, 2024. He was born February 21, 1950 in Norfolk, VA, the first child of the late Leonard Lee Clark Sr., and Rebecca T. Clark. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Gail Clark and Michelle Clark Maull (Willie). Leonard’s early education began at Christ the King Catholic School in Norfolk, VA. He later attended Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Norview High School. He furthered his education with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Norfolk State University. Though his career began in education, he quickly transitioned to serving as a probation officer at the Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for 30 years. Leonard Clark Jr was the epitome of fatherhood. He understood and demonstrated every facet of leading his family and setting a strong example. While he committed his life to leading and guiding his two sons, he also spread his words and wisdom to countless other young men who crossed his path. Often serving as a baseball and basketball coach, he became known as the neighborhood father. As a dedicated father, grandfather, son, uncle and brother, he could always be counted on to be present for the memory and many times to capture it on film. He loved camping, pinochle, playing basketball and all types of music. He also enjoyed interacting civically, socially and culturally with the members of the Men of Achievement and Culture (MOAC) for 40 plus years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Freida Clark, his sons Leonard Clark III (Joy) and Lamont Clark, his grandchildren, Ayo Clark Payne (Kameron), Leonard Clark IV and Zari Niles, his sister Alicia Clark, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends.

March 11, 2024 at 11:57 pmTo God Be the Glory for the memories He has created on Workwood Rd. To be raised and loved by one of the first “Black Sorority of Mothers” who showed compassion and protection and love so sincere. To be raised to have a loving regard for life and respect for every mother on our street. Then as a man or woman to have the opportunity to raise your own children and to share the love that was poured into each of us. Leonard Clark was filled with such positive attributes that he in turned poured into his sons and to any youth who would listen. His smile and his eyes tell the story of his parents, Leonard and Rebecca and his joy was exemplified with his beautiful wife of 52 YEARS!! What a mighty God we serve and what a blessed man was he for he had a heart of gold and wisdom that allowed him to share with others and always be a blessing. He will surely be missed, but we will be forever blessed to have known him.

March 9, 2024 at 3:53 pmI am so sorry to hear of Leonard’s passing. Leonard, Freida, and their sons were our neighbors for many years. They were the nicest couple, nicest family. During our pre- to early teen years, my brothers and I (and a few others on our street) would chat with them in their driveway on many a spring or summer day. We’d shoot the breeze about life in general. They were “that couple”, always welcoming, helping the young people gain a sense of self. Those memories will stay with me always. My prayers are with the family at this difficult time.
