LaVerne I. Davis Vinson, 69, was called home to be with the Lord, Friday night, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was born June 8, 1954. She was a native of Norfolk, Va. where she grew up in the Berkley section. She was the daughter of the late Imogene Delores Stancil and Lonnie Davis.
She was educated through the Norfolk Public School System. She was a member of the New Rising Sun Baptist Church, where she received her evangelist license under the teaching of Pastor Zack Pippins. She was a member of the young adult choir and the senior choir.
She worked several jobs, but her long term, employment was with OLD DOMINION UNIFORM SERVICE, later changing their name to UNIFIRST, WHERE She worked for 40 years.
In 2012 lead, by the Lord, she moved her membership to the VICTORIOUS LIVING WORSHIP CENTER, where she served faithfully, until illness prevented her attendance. One of her favorite songs was YOU KNOW MY NAME, among others. She also had a great sense of humor. She is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Linwood Vinson of 15 years; four brothers, Walter Nathanial Davis, Wendell Antonio Davis, Harry Leon Davis and Darryl Anthony Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sisters, Dicie Giddens (Cecil), Carolyn Holmes and Maria Taylor; two brothers, Leander Hayes Davis and Michael Davis (Nakeisha); one special sister, Cynthia Wilson; one special friend, Eula Palmer; one goddaughter, Malaysia Drummond and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
