Lauren Nicole Wheeler

Sunrise: September 17, 1985

Sunset: December 31, 2020

Lauren Nicole Wheeler, daughter of Kim Turner and Kevin Richardson Sr, was born September 17, 1985, in Norfolk, Virginia and on December 31, 2020, at the tender age of 35, God called her name and took her by the hand.

At an early age, Lauren’s faith foundation started while attending Atlantic Shores Christian Academy and New Light Baptist Church in Virginia Beach. There she learned God’s word and it was nothing to hear her recite scriptures from memory. Over the last year, Lauren’s faith in God, her strength, and her courage grew exponentially. Although she was going through a lot herself, she selflessly encouraged everyone else that everything would be ok.

Early on, the family relocated to Portsmouth and Lauren was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System.  While in elementary and middle school, Lauren was actively involved in activities, from African dance to recreational cheerleading. She went on to attend and graduate with honors from IC Norcom High School and as a Mighty Greyhound, Lauren was one the most trusted, loving, and loyal friends. Upon graduation, Lauren continued her studies at both Old Dominion University and Norfolk State University.  She found her niche working in the healthcare field and worked as a Benefit Specialist for Xerox and lastly as a benefit associate with ADP.

At 17 years old, Lauren met and fell head over heels for Marco. They had an immediate connection, and their love defied all the odds and blossomed into an 18-year love story. Lauren and Marco were inseparable. They did almost everything together. They lived for one another and kept one another in check. On September 7, 2006, they welcomed their baby girl, Lanaiya Amari. She was their world and their heartbeat. She completed their family and Lauren took pride in that. On April 20, 2016, Lauren and Marco exchanged vows and professed their love before God and family. They were dedicated to their marriage and in it to win it. As a wife and mother, Lauren was a natural born nurturer, and she did all she knew to ensure Marco and Lanaiya were well taken care of.

Lauren was a compassionate introvert who loved fiercely.  She was a protector of her family and friends and gave her all to any who needed it. She was a selfless person who only wanted to be loved as much as she gave love. Lauren has always been strong willed and incredibly independent and always worked hard for what she wanted. She was a straightforward person and did not let anything get past her.

Lauren loved painting, especially taking part in the paint night events. She loved listening to music and binge watching her favorite shows. She obsessed over her nails – the colors and the designs; and she had a passion for shopping, especially in TJ Maxx. Lauren also loved traveling with her family whether it was going to Disney on family vacations or on a girl’s excursion.  Lauren enjoyed family gatherings to eat and show off her cooking skills, baking brownies and sweet potato pies. She longed to have family together at her house for cookouts.

Lauren was predeceased by her grandmother Ramona Quiero, and great-grandparents Kenneth and Viola Jefferies.

Precious memories of Lauren will be cherished by her husband: Marco Wheeler; their daughter: Lanaiya Amari Wheeler; mom & stepdad: Kim and Reggie Turner; dad & stepmom: Kevin and Brenda Richardson; brothers: Kevin Richardson Jr and Travis (April) Turner; sisters Anbreia (SaQuan) Jordan and Tiffani Turner; nieces and nephews: SaNaa, Aniyah, Aiden, Trevor, Tyler, Makyya, Carmen, Kaleb, Lenox, Lexington, Carslyn and Kamryn;  grandparents: Doris and Clint Evans;  mother-in-law: Laura McGraw; father-in-law: Carl Wheeler Sr; brothers-in-law: Carl Wheeler Jr, Carson Johnson Jr, Laquan Johnson, Mario Davis; sister-in-law: Alexis Benton; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
