Latanya Marie Edwards was born on April 6, 1984, in New York, NY, to Vernestine Edwards and the late Anthony A. Edwards. Latanya graduated from Granby High School in Norfolk, VA, in 2001. She attended Old Dominion University, majoring in accounting. She was a member of Macedonia A.M.E Church in Suffolk, VA. From an early age, Latanya was ready to work. She worked at Winn Dixie in 2001 and continued her career at Food Lion and Harris Teeter as a front-end manager. Latanya enjoyed influencing her relatives and her friends to smile. Latanya made a positive impact through her hard work, her determination, and helping others. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, and friend. Latanya was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Mary Ballard Cherry, her maternal grandfather, Joe Underwood, Sr, her paternal grandmother, Hattie P. Gillespie, her father, Anthony Antonio Edwards, her paternal grandfather, John T. Edwards, and her sister-in-law, Iyasha Toyling Edwards. Latanya leaves to cherish her memories: A loving mother, Vernestine Edwards of Norfolk, VA; two sisters, Chenita Boykins of Portsmouth, VA and Pamela Edwards of Norfolk, VA; three brothers, Anthony D. Edwards of Suffolk, VA, Terry Edwards(Alice) of Level Green, PA and Michael Edwards of Norfolk, VA; several uncles, aunts, two nieces, one nephew, one grand nephew, and an abundance of other relatives and wonderful friends.

    I had just saw you 3 days before you were called home. I cried because I couldn’t believe it. You were an amazing person and the only one I have ever given my sweet potato pie recipe to.
