Larry J. Harmon

Sunrise: February 3, 1945

Sunset: July 9, 2024

Larry a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on July 9th, 2024, in Norfolk, VA. He was born on February 3rd, 1945, in Chicago, IL to the late George Cliffton Harmon and Essie Mae Tate Harmon. Larry is survived by his loving wife Rachel Vernell Harmon; his children Previn and Taris Harmon and his grandchildren, Kason and Kollin Harmon; siblings Georgia Mae Harmon Smith of Flemington, NJ; Maxine Lynette Harmon of Colorado Springs, Co; Michale Wyatt Harmon of Chicago, IL; Larquette Harmon of Chicago, IL.

Larry’s life story began with an early display of determination and hard work. At the tender age of eight he started selling Jet magazines and by ten had worked up to having his own paper route. It wasn’t always hard work; however, Larry was an Illinois state marble shooting champion at age 12.

His strong work ethic would carry him through life as he embarked on a long and fulfilling career in the United States Navy. His military service spanned over two decades and he traveled the world extensively. It was during this time that Larry would meet Rachel Vernell Dean, who would become his devoted wife. Together they built a beautiful family, raised two sons, and remained partners for over fifty years until his passing.
