Sunset: March 20, 2024

Kenneth Bernard Payton III, 31, of Suffolk, VA , departed us to be with his parents on March 20, 2024.

Kenny Payton, affectionately known as “KP,” was born in Suffolk, VA in 1992 to Ken Payton, Jr. and Wendy Smith.

KP attended Kings Fork High school where he graduated in 2010, before studying computer science at Norfolk State University.

As a child, Kenny was joyful and spontaneous. He loved singing R&B music and played little league baseball. His cool and calm demeanor carried him through many obstacles in his life. It was this part of him that made everyone laugh and feel comfortable. He enjoyed reading, good movies, and good food. Kenny will always be remembered for his infectious laughter, as well as his love for the Washington Commanders. We couldn’t have asked for a better brother and will miss Kenny every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

Kenny was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth B. Payton, Jr.; his mother, Wendy Smith; grandparents, Kenneth B. Payton, Sr., Sadie Payton, Herbert Smith, Sr., and Doris Smith. He is survived by his stepmother, Sherri K. Payton; step siblings: Phillip A. Wilson, Janay A. Wilson, and Daniel R. Wilson; aunts: Lisa Pray Watson and La’ura Taylor; his uncles: Daniel Payton, Vincent D. Taylor, and Herbert Smith, Jr., and a litany of cousins and friends.

KP you will always be loved and missed.

    To the Payton Family:
I am a cousin who pastors a church in Kansas City Missouri now. My father was Theodore Davis Sir. I am so so sorry for your loss. My father spoke highly of Kenneth and I can only imagine the deep and sudden grief this has brought on. Although I am unable to fly out to be present on Friday, I will be watching online. Know that I will be praying for the whole Payton Family over the next few months. It is never easy loosing a loved one. But know that Jesus is walking with each of you in the mist of this deep grief. Please let me know if there is any other specific way I can be praying for any of the Payton Family.
