Born on July 18, 1972 in Norfolk, Virginia, Kelvin Orlando Gallop was the son of the late Melvin M. Gallop Sr. and Rita L. Griffin. He graduated from Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, VA and soon thereafter joined the Marine Corp Reserve. After the military, Kelvin worked for R.D. Lamb and Co. construction, The City of Virginia Beach, Service Transfer Inc., and International Longshoreman Association-1248 Hampton Roads Shipping Association where he was employed until his death.
Kelvin had a “larger than life” personality and was often the “life of the party”. He was passionate about playing his music, playing cards, cooking (especially grilling), fishing, and especially his beloved New York Giants. But, nothing made Kelvin happier than being around his family and friends. Kelvin was an amazing husband who ensured that his wife was taken care of and respected at all times. He was a dedicated father who made sure that his children understood that they were his PRIORITY. Kelvin was a doting son, who loved and honored his parents. He had an unyielding bond with his siblings that continued to grow stronger with each passing day. Kelvin just loved life and enjoyed spending it with his amazing family and friends.
Kelvin is survived by his dedicated mother Rita Griffin, his wife of twenty amazing years, Joy Gallop; his beloved children: Lance Haynes, Kyla Gallop and Kamryn Gallop; his loyal siblings: Monica Whitaker, Manisha Butts (Sean), Nichole Gallop-Ali (Karleak), Antoine Butts (Latoya), Marketta Foreman-Pender (Eric), and Lacey Gallop; his nurturing godmother, Myra Rose; his caring mother-in-love, Arlene Chavis; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends all who will forever treasure the memories they shared.
Kelvin was predeceased by his father, Melvin Gallop, Sr.; his brother, Melvin Gallop, Jr.; his sister, Amber Tyler; and his brother-in-law, Larry Whitaker, Sr.
Kelvin will be remembered for his dedication to family, sense of humor, big personality, and contagious laughter. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
May he rest in peace.

December 4, 2024 at 2:17 pmTo my dear family,
My heart aches deeply at the news of Kelvin’s passing. He was such a light in this world—always warm, funny, and never without that signature smile that could brighten any room. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
As we grieve together, I find comfort in these words: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18). May His love and peace surround you now and always.
Love you all.

Rita and Lacy, my prayers are with you. I have great memories of Kelvin and I growing up at St. Joseph. We had fun times at the choir rehearsals. Even in our adult hood whenever we would see each other we would laugh and talk about those times. Just know Rita and Lacy my deepest sympathy goes out to you at this time. May God comfort your heart in the days to come.
