On June 3, 2018, our beloved Keith Edward Lacey departed this life at Sentara Hospice Center, in Va Beach, Virginia. Keith was born on June 16, 1964, in Great Lakes, Illinois. Later his family was transferred to Norfolk, Va, where he started elementary school. As a child he enjoyed being the Boy Scouts, playing little league baseball and fishing. Once his family moved to Va Beach and he began playing football, his passion for the game was born and would last throughout the rest of his life.
He graduated from Kempsville High School in Va Beach, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Virginia. Keith was a strong football defensive lineman throughout high school and college. He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, proudly wearing Steelers hats and gear, and often passing out Steelers paraphernalia to friends and acquaintances. Keith had a friendly and caring nature about him, often taking time to dispense advice when he would see a friend or co-worker in stress.
Keith was a “people person” with a quick smile, welcoming personality, and friendly demeanor that served him well and matched him perfectly with his life-long career in sales. Keith had a great sense of humor, enjoyed playing cards, and enjoyed being the “official grillmaster” at family cookouts. Large in stature, Keith was even larger in kindness, having never met a stranger and making friends everywhere he went.
On January 30, 2010, Keith was united in marriage to the former Denise Hightower. They had a large circle of friends and enjoyed traveling up and down the East Coast looking for the winning slot machines! They enjoyed eight wonderful years of marriage before Keith took ill.
Keith was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: John B. and Carolyn Lacey, his maternal grandparents: Chester and Lucille Thompson, his Uncle “Ches Jr.” and his favorite Uncle Benny.
Keith is survived by his wife: Denise, his parents: Dwight and Oneida, his sister: Jennifer, his “ma-in law”: Ann, his brother and sister-in-law: Derrick and Faith, his god-family: the Haizlips, his special 4-legged friends: “Bootsie”, “Sade”, and “Lil Wayne”, many, many relatives, and a host of long-time friends that had become his family.
