Katie M. Hines, 84 passed away peacefully on September 4th, 2024 at Rowes Care Home, Virginia Beach.

She was born on May 1st, 1940 in North Carolina to the late Mary E. Jordan and George Washington Pittman.

A proud resident of Chesapeake, Virginia of 39 years and a graduate of Booker T. Washington, Norfolk. She married John A. Hines on May 25th, 1960 in Norfolk, Virginia.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Norfolk State University. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a member of the Las Gemmes of Norfolk, Virginia. She was a lifetime member of the NAACP. She was a member of the Minister’s Wives and Minister’s Widows Alliance of Tidewater. She was a member of the Upsilon Omega Chapter Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. Norfolk, Virginia for more than 30 years. Katie, along with another member of the NAACP initiated area two NAACP Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological, and Scientific Olympics, which is a NAACP education program.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and many loved her.

She joined Antioch Baptist Church in Berkley, Virginia, and was a faithful member. At her passing, she was a faithful member of The Way, The Truth, and The Life Church in Portsmouth, Virginia.

She was predeceased by Georgia Hill (sister), Mary E. Shields (mother), Arthur Hill (stepfather), and Morris Pittman (brother).

She is survived by her loving husband John A. Hines; AND two sons Kenneth and Arron Hines. She has five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren

    Katie, You were more than a cousin you were my older sister. I will miss your laughter and your sense of humor. I know whatever medical issues you had in this life are gone now and you are happy in heaven with your family and you and Eunice are getting in trouble.
    Rest in peace , I will miss you but I know God knows best.

    Aunt Katie, we use to say I was the daughter you never had, you did the girly things with me like putting holes in my ear, my first perm and you taught me about makeup but I could never get it right😂 I’m going to miss you but I have a lot of good memories. You are now with the rest of the family and I know y’all are having a blast. Love and miss you ❤️

    Rev. Hines & Family, Sometimes you meet someone & you immediately like them & admire them; this was how I felt about Sister Hines. As a new member at GMZBC, she made me feel welcomed & loved. I enjoyed every moment with her. May God’s peace & love surround you & your loving memories keep you. God Bless You.

    Please know that I cannot be here to support the family as I wish to physically, but please know that I am with you all spiritually. I am thinking of each of you now and more than ever.     My deepest, deepest condolences. Katie Hines was like an aunt to me. We sang together for years in the choir. I will miss her so much. I never got to tell her I made it to greekland. Rest my D9 sister! May God comfort you uncle John!
