On Sunday, September 29th, Fourteen-year-old Justyss, aka Juss Juss, peacefully transitioned from this world to eternal rest at home surrounded by family and an abundance of love.
Born October 15, 2009, he was one of 5 children born to Michael Rogers of Norfolk, Virginia, and Antoinette Johnson Rogers of Mount Vernon, New York. Raised in South Norfolk, Virginia, and educated by the Norfolk and Portsmouth Public School System. Justyss was raised in a beautiful and vibrant family.
At the age of 5, Justyss was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive, muscle-weakening condition. He would receive care at CHKD Muscular Dystrophy Clinic from Dr. Crystal Proud and her host of excellent staff. Living with muscular dystrophy is filled with obstacles that are challenging and unpredictable, yet Justyss was able to navigate those challenges happy and still eager to enjoy life.
Justyss had a passion for gaming, art, drawing, good food, and going fast! He would often play FNF, ROBLOX, and Sonic while having music blaring through the house. He enjoyed playing scratch on his computer, creating his own gaming and Sonic characters. Sonic was his favorite, and if Justyss could, he’d run circles around us just like Sonic. He would say Sonic is the best, and no one can stop him, he’s smart and fast. He picked a perfect representative. Justyss was definitely smart, and once he got his electric wheelchair, he could also go “super” fast. His thoughts and opinions also came to you “super” fast, along with apologies in case you were offended.
Vibrant, energetic, quick-witted, firm, courteous, and kind. A child that was a teacher because if you knew him, you knew he would guide and direct you through everything, even your thoughts! Guaranteed to laugh or be surprised, but what he might say, Justyss was a burst of energy and life. A rare being, a messenger of love, and a carrier of joy.
Justyss was preceded by his loving great-grandparents Gleanish Johnson, Evelyn Rogers, Livial Reese, Ethel Mitchell, and Henry (Soniece) Moore. He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Keaona Sanders of Virginia Beach, VA, and Lyric Rogers of Chesapeake, VA. Brothers Zyon and Michael Rogers Jr. of Chesapeake, VA. Grandparents Davis and Linnette Martin of Chesapeake, VA, Sharon Reese of Mount Vernon, NY, Anthony Johnson of Monroe, VA, Michael Moore of Norfolk, VA, Uncles Davis Martin of Norfolk, VA, Demetrius Reese of Mount Vernon, NY, and Lendell (Kenya) Rogers of Memphis, TN, Aunts Evelyn (Renard) Mason of Virginia Beach, VA, Nikima Kollore of Mount Vernon, NY, Domonique Buruss of Norfolk, VA, and Dichelle Nowell of Va Beach, VA. Great-grandfathers Lendell Rogers of Norfolk, VA, and Robert (Gleanish) Johnson of Lynchburg, VA, and a host of Great Great Aunts, Great Aunts, Uncles, cousins, family, and loved ones.
