Judith Louise Owens

Sunrise: November 3, 1957

Sunset: February 1, 2023

Judith Louise Owens or “Judy” as she was affectionately called by many departed this life to be with the lord, Tuesday, February 1st, 2023 in the serenity of her home located in Virginia Beach. She was the oldest of the late Norman C. Owens and Barbara Jean Owens, born November 3, 1957 in New York, NY.

Judith grew up in the Cypress Hills area of Brooklyn, NY.  Later her family moved to Harlem where she graduated from Saint Jean Batiste High. She would later attend Howard University in Washington,D.C and there she would join the United States Navy. While in the Navy, she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from Southern New Hampshire University Manchester, NH. Judy would later go on to work and retire from the United States Postal Service in Norfolk, VA after almost three decades.

Judiths character can be described in so many words, but the best way is to look back on her life and see the many faces of those she’s loved and touched along the way. Two of her greatest joys that she was able to combine was spending time with family and friends, and traveling. You could catch her visiting family and friends all around the country, or being the self-designated travel planner for the next family or friends trip. This joy was passed down to her granddaughter who quickly was added to her list of countless travel partners.

To know her was to love her, from her no filter personality to her giving nature.  The lasting memories she has left on everyone she’s touched can be seen everywhere. From her early beginnings in Cypress Hills , to her days as a Howard Bison,  Naval Academy to Naval Station, and throughout her years with the United States Postal Service; Judith’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts and spirits of those who loved her, especially her daughter and grandchild.

Judith is survived by her daughter and granddaughter, Asia White(from her marriage to Cornelius White) and Peyton Roberts of Virginia Beach, VA; siblings, Norman M. Owens (Melissa), Stephen Owens, and Shirl Owens of New York, NY ; Nephews, Jamal Owens and Javon Owens; Nieces, Shontay Owens, Janerica Sanders,  Chantel Frazier-Owens, Lavinia Owens, Jamelah Andrews, Ashley Owens, Glendalyn Hearn, and Valerie Hearn; and a host of Great Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends. Judith’s parents, Norman C. Owens and Barbara Jean Owens both preceded her in death.
