Jordan Edward Marshall

Sunrise: March 23, 1994

Sunset: October 30, 2022

Jordan Edward Marshall was born in Virginia Beach, VA on March 23, 1994. He was a force of life that will always remain with us. He passed away on October 30, 2022 while vacationing in Mexico City. He was a student of life, always learning and curious about the world. This desire for learning extended into various travel experiences. He had a true passion for traveling around the world and being completely immersed in the culture of his destinations. He loved taking tours and learning about the history, culture, people, and cuisine of so many places around the world. Jordan had a quick wit and a sharp sense of humor that was so uniquely his own. He could always make you laugh. There was never a moment he wasn’t pushing boundaries in some way, as was his nature from a young age. If you tried to put him on punishment, he would create an argument including several alternatives to the intended punishment.

Jordan was a 2011 graduate of Kellam High School. He received his Bachelor’s in Political Science from Hampton University in 2015 and his Master’s Degree in Secondary Social Studies in 2020. Jordan always fought for what was right. We are so proud of him for following his passion for teaching. He loved his students. Black male teachers are underrepresented, and we find solace in knowing that he touched so many young black boys and girls over the last 7 years in education. His latest teaching assignment was 12th grade English at Rosenwald Collegiate in New Orleans, LA.

These words cannot possibly sum up the life of such a beautiful person, but it is a glimpse into knowing him. He is survived by so very many loved ones including his parents, Larry and Jennifer Marshall, as well as his sister, Jasmine Marshall, his grandmother, Madeline Wade, grandparents Oscar and Alice Jefferson, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. His dogs, Addie and Molly will also miss him and his hugs dearly.

Even though his time here was cut short, no doubt he is still inspiring us all and will continue to do so for years to come. He is the kind of soul that stays with you forever.

    Dear Larry, Jen, and Jasmine,
There are no words to say how very sad I am to hear of Jordan’s transition. I know how close your family is and how much he is loved. I will always remember what a gifted student he was! It was my pleasure to have been his third-grade teacher, in fact to both your children. I will always cherish his memory.
Please know that so many people are grieving with you.

My sincerest condolences to the Marshall family.
Thank you for showing me how to claim the world as my own. You didn’t realize that you were teaching me hoe to have ownership of my gifts because you knew your worth and wasn’t afraid to loudly proclaim your worth. I will miss being seen by my friend though you rolled out. I will always hold dear to my heart the times we shared and the fires we walked into together. A bright star forever. Thank you for gracing my life with your presence. That laugh will be something I always cherish.

Jordan is the brightest light I have ever known in my entire life. He saw beauty in me when I had no idea it existed. I’m so fortunate for the time he spent at Howard, because without that I wouldn’t have know how wonderful someone could be. He was the most beautiful and inspirational person I’ve ever met. He saw light in the darkest of situations. No matter what was going on he looked on the bright side and that taught me so much. To the Marshall family, I give my sincerest condolences. Your friend, son, brother, cousin, etc. was the best person I have ever met and he will be missed so much. But, his legacy is not this tragedy. His presence will continue to live on.
