On January 27, 2025, our Omnipresent, Omnipotent, and Omniscient God called his son, Johnnie Olenton Blanchard, to eternal rest. Johnnie was the son of James and Virginia Blanchard who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Johnnie Farmer. Seven of his brothers and sisters preceded him in death; another sister, Helen Smith, transitioned a couple days after Johnnie transitioned.
Johnnie was fondly known as “John,” “Ted,” and “Lent.” Full of fun and love, John was the 12th of 14 children. He was educated in the Chesapeake Public School System, graduating from Crestwood High School. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Airforce in which he was honorably discharged. He worked briefly as a Sheriff for the City of Chesapeake. He retired from the City of Norfolk Public Works as a meter reader. John had a passion for dancing. He loved to travel and tried so hard to be an excellent bid whist card player. Johnnie loved to talk and ended up in “serious” conversations to get his point across. He was such a humorous soul who kept the laughter flowing! Johnnie Blanchard was a wonderful dad, a great uncle, brother, and adored by many.
The love in the Blanchard family flows strong and deep, leaving memories to cherish forever. Always in the hearts of Jannifer Farmer, daughter; E.J. Edmonds (Nicky) and Columbus DeShawn Wilkes (sons); 12 beautiful grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; Sheldia Bell and Veronica Godfrey, sisters; Dr. Michael (Adrienne); Deacon George (Gina) and Norman (Gloria) Blanchard. In addition, he will be missed by a host of relatives and friends of which almost everyone he met was considered to his “cousin.”
“I shall pass through this world but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing that I can do, to any fellow human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it; for I will not pass this way again.” Stephen Grellet.
