On Saturday, July 23, 2022, the Lord called home the soul of His child, our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt and friend Johnnie Mae Smith.
Johnnie Mae was born February 9, 1929 to the late Patty and Johnny Green in Margarettsville, NC.
She was an avid caterer and operated a catering service with her partner, Ethel Morgan, for 25+ years. She was also one of the proprietors of Tic Tock Kindergarten. She was an active member of St Mark A.M.E. Church for 65 years until her health began to fail her. She served in various auxiliaries, organizations and ministries, i.e. Stewardess Board, Daughters of St Mark, Pastor’s Aid, Gospel Choir and Feeding the Homeless ministry.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Smith; two sisters, Louise Russell and Catherine Ware; two brothers, James and Eugene Gatling; a great granddaughter, Kennedy Grimstead; three nephews, Redell Deloatch, Thomas Walkup and Michael Foster and three sisters-in-law, Lillie Gatling, Virginia Smith and Rebecca Anthony.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Phyllis Grimstead (Wardell),Brenda Ransom and Shelia Smith; two grandsons, Terry Grimstead (Jasmine) and Kelly Grimstead; six great grandchildren, Queen Knight, Kaylee, Sydney, Nicholas, Jaxson and Mason Grimstead; a great great grandson, Levi Knight; three special nieces, Adell Walkup, Linda Chavis and Diane Collins and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
