Johnnie E. Stancil

Sunrise: January 28, 1921

Sunset: May 12, 2018

Early Saturday morning, May 12, 2018, our beloved one, Johnnie Stancil, departed this life peacefully at home with love ones by his bed side. Johnnie E. Stancil was born January 28, 1921 on Cumberland Street in Norfolk, Virginia. He was the son of the Late Graham and Rebecca Noble Stancil. Johnnie was preceded in death by his only sibling, Alberta Royster in 2006. He attended public schools in Norfolk, Virginia and graduated from High School in Snow Hill, North Carolina. Johnnie continued his educational experiences at Norfolk State College to become a “Master Carpenter.” This special “trade” allowed him to construct several monumental structures within the Tidewater area as well as working in Albany, New York for over 25 years.
At an early age, Johnnie accepted Christ and attended New Calvary Baptist Church. He married the late Mamie Ruth Stancil on December 24, 1943 and they shared over 57 years of marriage.

Johnnie was an Army veteran and a master chef. He was quite an extraordinary individual who had a unique way of expressing his “thoughts” about a situation, person or an idea. His strong “spirit” to be right stood out and brought on
interesting and challenging conversations. He truly enjoyed watching wrestling and MSNBC news. The last few years if his life, you would find him, sitting in his favorite swirling chair, “scratching” his head or beard, and speaking about how fast his hair grows over night and closely monitoring his 1996 white Dodge Ram pick-up truck. Johnnie leaves to cherish his memories: Ricky Stancil (son), Antonio Woolard (grandson), Vickie K. Wallington (daughter), Derrick Drummond (grandson) and devoted niece Pamelia Small, 1st cousin Dr. Clarence L. Stone of Michigan, a devoted group of supportive friends: Tyrone Upshur, Joyce Bethea, Frances Palin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and others. (Beth, Myra and Gerry).
