Johnathan E. Griffin

Sunrise: January 21, 1994

Sunset: October 6, 2018

“Jesus said, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28).

This is to acknowledge that Johnathan Elijah Griffin departed this life on Saturday, October 6, 2018, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Born on January 21, 1994 in Portsmouth, Virginia, he was affectionately called “JoJo.” He was the eldest child of Dawayne Lemart Hoffler Sr. and Laura Ann Griffin. He was raised by his paternal grandmother, Nell H. Moody, and his paternal grandfather, Calup R. Moody (until his death).

At an early age, JoJo accepted the teachings of Jesus Christ. He was a member of Little Grove Baptist Church in Suffolk, where he participated in the Foundation Learning Center (FLC) after-school program as a child. He always found comfort in the Lord and prayer, especially at times when he had to deal with his medical issues. JoJo lived a good life that was filled with promise. He was a sweet and generous young man who would  share whatever he had with others. He loved people. The holidays brought him joy because it was a time  he could spend with his family and friends. He was kind-hearted, and had a beautiful smile that would radiate a room when he walked in. People gravitated to him. He knew no strangers.

He loved to cook and would create amazing dishes in the kitchen that we all loved. He dreamed of becoming a chef one day and considered going to cooking school after attending Western Branch High School. JoJo also enjoyed working with his hands, and used tools handed down from his grandfather, Calup, to tinker. He soon developed a knack for fixing things. If something around the house needed fixing, JoJo would fix it.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Calup R. Moody, his mother, Laura Ann Griffin, and his aunt, Rita King. Left to cherish his memories: his daughter, Avery; his father, Dawayne Lemart Hoffler Sr.; his nana/grandmother, Nell Hoffler Moody; his maternal great-grandmother, Nellie Mae Hoffler; brothers, Dawayne Lemart Hoffler Jr. and Trevor Stefon Crewe; sisters, Deanna Griffin-Martinez and Madison Griffin – Martinez; aunts, Mia Moody & Lauren Brashear; uncles, Colin Moody, Taran Moody, and Charles Griffin; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Griffin; great uncles, William Hoffler, Merrian Joyner (Beverly) and Barnett Moody(Tammy); great aunts, Mary Hoffler, Olar Wallace (Darryl), Colitha Edmonds, Olivia Collins, Paula Gunter(Raymond), Hope Moody, Shirley Piggott (Herbert); and a host of paternal great aunts  & great uncles, cousins, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
Rest in Heaven, Our Sweet Angel.
