John Harrison Mason, Sr.

John Harrison Mason, Sr. was born in Washington, D.C. on December 10, 1950 to Harrison and Mary Mason. They had three other children Alfred, Mildred, and Mary. From 1979 to 2002, John was married to his first wife, Commoneta Mason. He later remarried
his second wife, Peggy Butler-Mason in 2015. In 1993, John Mason retired from the United States Navy as a Petty Officer with over 20 years of service at Naval Station Norfolk. John was known for his contagious smile, giving heart, selflessness, a father figure to friends, neighbors and a loving father. More so, he was genuine and honest with his words to all. Other characteristics of John were as follows: he loved to tell jokes, made people laugh, a
lover of music and traveling. More so, he was a spiritual man who was dedicated to turning over his life to God. Importantly, family meant a lot to him, he always wanted the family to be together and he was proud to be a grandfather. In another aspect he was a disciplinarian with a stern demeanor that had a philosophy to always motivate his children to always work hard towards reaching their goals. In turn, they would achieve, and he was proud of them attaining their goals.He provided authentic teachable moments and lessons to his children consistently and throughout their lives.

John loved his siblings and leaves behind a special bond shared with his brother Alfred.
John Harrison will be missed and will always remain in our hearts and thoughts as we embark on remembering all the fun and wonderful memories on how he touched our lives. He is survived by his six children, John Mason, Jr., Ashley Mason, Joanne Mason, Millicent
Mason, Karen Mason and Monica Smith; seven grandchildren, Braelynn Henderson, Johneil, DeTroy, Nahse’, Dai’John, Latoria, Alena and Katrina Mason andone brother, Alfred Mason.

    Hello Mason family your dad will be missed. I lived also the hall from y’all in Oakmont North for years. Djaye and Chaye were my kids and I’m Mrs.Annita. Your dad taught me the meaning of a Great Neighbor. My prayers are with y’all.
