LCDR John Edward Wiley, IV, U.S. Navy (Retired) also known as Popcorn, 71, passed peacefully on April 25, 2018. Born and raised in Camden, NJ. He was the son of the late John and Ruth Wiley III. Growing up, he was a member of St. Augustin’s Episcopal Church where he served as an acolyte.
He was a graduate of Camden High School where he participated in many extracurricular activities such as the track and cross-country teams, the Library Council, and Future Teachers of America. Upon graduation, John received an athletic scholarship to run track for the legendary Dick Price at Norfolk State University. John was also a charter member of the Delta Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
In 1969, John enlisted into the United States Navy. He served 31 years and climbed the ranks, eventually retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. During his tenure in the Navy, John worked in Aviation Ordinance and serviced on three aircraft carriers: U.S.S. Independence, the U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisinhower, and the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, and received many wards and accolades. Following retirement, John worked at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).
John will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor, his strong work ethic, and his love of music and model. Trains. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Majorie, five children: Michael Shuler (Nicole), Avery Wiley, Kerry Bright (Samuel), John Wiley V and Phillip Wiley; two brothers, Craig and Stephen Wiley, and seven grandchildren; Ashanti Ferguson, Sanae Bright, Samuel Bright II, Simeon Bright, Ciera Shuler, Carina Shuler and Chaylin Shuler and a host of friends.

I was truly saddened to hear of the passing of Wiley. He was a good person who loved life. We were classmates and friends at Norfolk State and will miss him dearly.
