John A. Mearise, Jr.

Sunrise: October 3, 1959

Sunset: October 10, 2021

God saw him getting tired, and a cure was not to be. He wrapped him in his loving arms and said, come with me. He suffered much in silence, and his spirit did not bend. He faced his pains with courage until the very end. He tried so hard to stay with us, but his fight was not in vain. God took him to His loving home and freed him from the pain.

John A. Mearise, Jr. departed this life on Sunday, October 10, 2021. He was the son of the late John A. Mearise, Sr., and Myrtis L. Mearise.  John was born on October 3, 1959. He was raised in Norfolk, Va., and attended Norfolk Public Schools. He worked at Norfolk Southern Railways from high school until he retired. John was preceded in death by his mother and father.

John leaves to cherish his memories, one son Terry Keys of Norfolk, Va. one daughter Shenika Robinson of Chesapeake, Va., one brother, Quincy Wynn (Sheila) of Chesapeake, Va., one sister, Valerie Mearise of Norfolk, Va., five grandchildren, a special friend, Inell who was there from the beginning until the end, one niece, one nephew, and a host of relatives and friends.

I’m Free!
Don’t grieve for me; for now, I’m free. I am following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard Him call; I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work, or play. Things left undone must stay that way; I found peace at the close of the day. Perhaps my time seems all too brief, do not lengthen now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me; God wanted me now. He set me free.
