On Sunday August 1, 1926, Joel Baum Jr. was born in Corapeake, N.C. He was raised in Creswell, N.C. alongside with his brother Herbert Baum and his cousin Virginia Baum Jackson. It was on Resurrection Sunday, April 4, 2021 that Joel Baum Jr. (94) gained his heavenly wings at home in Chesapeake, Virginia. He worked at Norfolk Airport Piedmont Airline for 36 years. As a devoted Christian, Joe loved the lord and was an active member at Living Water Revival Center. In the community, Joe was very actively engaged and served in Whaleyville Deer Hunting Club.
Joe truly loved and lived life to the fullest serving God every day through his words and actions while wanting/needing for nothing. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Joe. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, crossword puzzles, reading the bible and spending time with wife Gee-Gee, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother Everlina Chalk Baum, his father Joel Baum, Sr., his first wife Elizabeth Baum, his son Maurice Baum, and his brother Herbert Lee Baum. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Geraldine Baum of Chesapeake, VA; his sister in-laws Bernice Collins of Norfolk, VA, Joyce Medley of Anchorage, Alaska and Danise Millner of Anchorage, Alaska; his brother in law Arthur Medley of Fairbanks, Alaska; his children Anthony Lee Baum Sr., (Lavonda) of Suffolk, VA and Cornelius Jenkins (Shandisha) of Norfolk, VA; his step-children Melinda Boddie (Michael) of Chesapeake, VA, Patricia Dillard of Raleigh, NC, Vickie Holiday (Earl) of Raleigh, NC, Anthony Dillard of Anchorage, Alaska, Debbie Freeman (Thomas) of Raleigh NC; his grandchildren Anthony Lee Baum Jr., Kiara Bullock (Jonathan), Courtney Franklin, Toni’Ona Baum, Layvon Baum, Zamya Jenkins, Kwamaine Garrett and James Gay III; his great-grandchildren Amari Baum, Aria Baum, Tyler Gandy, Jonathan Bullock II, Maleeah Garrett, and Maeci Garrett; and a host of nieces, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
