Joe Clyde Butler affectionately known as “Joe or Clyde” slipped into eternal rest on the morning of February 4, 2021. He was born in Isle of Wight County of Smithfield, Virginia on May 24, 1947 to the late Holland and Margaret Butler. He was predeceased in death by his siblings Melvin Butler, Holland Butler Jr., Herbert Butler, and Rosa Taylor.
Joe received his elementary education from Isle of Wight County Schools and his secondary education from Norfolk Public Schools. In 1971 Joe wed the love of his life Deborah Corprew Butler. Joe was also a dedicated family man where he loved to spend time with his children Aryonia, April, Avis, Clyde, and Quadra. He took pride in the love and legacy of his 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. After 20 plus years, Joe retired from serving as a Foreman/Supervisor for Evan’s now known as Weyerhaeuser’s. After retirement, he had such a love for painting that he started his own business entitled, “JB Small Business Repair and Painting.” He was a faithful member of Corner Stone Christian Center where he loved and served as the Sr. Deacon and other capacities.
Joe leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 49 years Deborah Butler; 3 daughters, Aryonia “Nicki” Drake, April Campbell both of Chesapeake, VA, Avis Harrell (Robert) of North Carolina; 2 sons Clyde Butler (Ruwar-Ameer) of Detroit, MI and Quadra Butler of Chesapeake, VA; 11 grandchildren, Ricky Campbell, Michael Butler, Rikyah Campbell, Kayla Drake, and Caleb Drake all of Chesapeake, VA, Robert Harrell Jr., (Teresa), Emanuel Harrell and Tierra D. Pugh, (Anshawn Sr). all of Ahoskie, NC; Nicholas Butler, Tia Butler and Devon Butler all of Detroit, MI.; 4 great-grandchildren Anshawn Pugh Jr., Teryliah Cherry, Caleb Harrell and Joshua Harrell.; 2 Aunts Nellie Mae Wells (Newport News, VA) Marilyn Butler (Smithfield, VA); 2 Uncles Robert Drew (Philadelphia, PA) and Edward Oscar Drew (Smithfield, VA) ; 4 sisters-in-love Easter Corprew, Thelma Butts, Theorus Thurston, (all of Chesapeake, VA); and Carolyn Butler (Norfolk, VA); brother in love Curtis Corprew (Chesapeake, VA.); favorite niece, Andrea Gibson; 3 God-daughters Janiell Youngblood, Sharease Jackson, and Felicia Peele, and a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, loved ones, and friends.
