Jimmie Earl Hendricks was born May 19, 1941, to late parents Samuel and Steveania Hendricks in Norfolk, Virginia. He grew up as one of seventeen siblings. During his early adulthood, he worked for several companies, such as Smith & Wellington and Haynes Furniture, before becoming a maintenance supervisor for Sumler Terrace Apartments.
Soon thereafter, he met and married the love of his life, Shelia Hunter. They had two children, James and Melody, who they raised in the Sumler Terrace section of Berkley for many years. During his time as a maintenance supervisor, he served the community with patience and care both during working and after hours in many circumstances.
In his senior years, he continued to serve as a father figure to many of his son’s friends and family. The day he passed, he had one more great laugh with his daughter-in-law, Aprill Hendricks, while he was transitioning home to be with the Lord.
Even though he is no longer with us, he left a piece of himself with so many of us through his intimate encounters with the people who he loved so dearly. He was known for his unwavering commitment to his family, as a loving father, and as a cherished member of our community. He enjoyed frying seafood with his original seafood batter recipe for family and friends’ gatherings. He leaves behind his only living sibling, one of seventeen, his brother, Steavenson Hendrick. Also, granddaughter Ja’Niya McLean and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Jimmie Earl Hendricks, may he rest in heavenly peace.
