Jeanette K. Miles was born to John Arthur O’neil, Sr. and Hattie Elizabeth O’neil on October 26, 1946 and entered into eternal rest on August 19, 2020. Jeanette was born in Charleston, South Carolina and moved to Norfolk, Virginia when she was two years old. She attended Booker T. Washington High School before graduating from the Norfolk Technical Center School of Nursing. She had a long career in nursing, spending more than nineteen years at Lake Taylor City Hospital. She also worked in hospitals and nursing centers throughout Hampton Roads, eventually retiring in 2008.
Jeanette’s faith and family were her driving forces. For twenty-five years, she was a faithful member of New Hope Church of God in Christ. She later attended New Abundant Life Christian Center and Macedonia Pentecostal. She was a wonderful and dedicated friend; she could spend hours each day in the company of her loved ones. She loved plants and worked tirelessly on her “green thumb.” She was also a member of the Red Hat Club and enjoyed spending afternoons with the members whenever possible.
Jeanette entered into her final resting place on Wednesday, August 19th. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur D. Miles, Jr., her parents, John and Elizabeth O’neil, brothers Allen, John, and Franklin, and sister, Barbara. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Angela James, and one son, Armeer Kenchen (wife, Tara); six grandchildren, Charles Jr. (wife, Kelsey), William, Nya, Cameron, Briya, and Shay; nine greatgrandchildren, Brooklyn, Chaniya, Jelontay, Nyzir, Omari, Rylei, Te’lashia, Tenay’e, and Tionna; two siblings, David O’neil and Janie Morris; and one adopted sister, Dorothy Heard. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
