Jean V. Singleton

Sunrise: February 20, 1948

Sunset: September 8, 2020

On Tuesday, September 8th, 2020, Jean Singleton our loving special wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, went home to be with our father at the age of 72. Jean was born February 20, 1948 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Geneva McClain and W. Singleton.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Geneva McClain and W. Singleton; her brother, William “Puddin” Cherry; sister, Tina Conteh; daughter, Latonia Mitchell, and step-son, Jabar Knight. Jean always made sure she set aside time to give back to her community. She regularly dedicated time to feed the homeless and spent time rehabilitating mentally and physically disabled youth. Jean held many jobs in her lifetime, from electrician to lens maker, but the job that was the greatest and the one she was best at was being herself. A loving spouse, mother, friend, and anything else that you could ask for in a human being. Jean loved her family, she took great pride in her appearance, and cooking (especially her yams!) she was a feisty loving woman that brought joy to everyone she encountered.

She loved reading and was a quick-witted beautiful woman. Left to cherish her precious memories is her soulmate, Taris Knight; children, Dawn Gooden (Corlon), Langston Drew (Dana), Deidre Britt (Harold), Anika Benjamin and Jarnesia Gatling (Reggie); siblings, Jeanetta Burkes (Artis), Edward L. Cherry (James), Ricky Cherry and Ronnie Cherry; grandchildren, Latoya Mitchell (Irvin), Lashawna Mitchell, Deva Brooks, Isiah Gibson, Taylor Drew, Quinton Drew, Tiara Drew, Tajae B. Drew, Christian H. Drew, Zion H. Drew, Nia H. Drew, Langston Logan Drew, Anaiya Britt, Tashawn Britt, Deja Gilliam, Alexis Mitchell, Mahogany Hughes and Diamond Vaugahn; special niece/daughter, Yvette Brehoh (Gregory); eighteen great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She will be greatly missed.

Life is the greatest gift that God has given us. Death is only a bridge toward eternal life with God. Heaven is rejoicing that another soul your beloved Jean has finally reached her true home. What a blessing for me to have met her.
