Jean Evelyn (Jefferson) McNair was called home by our Lord and Savior after a long journey. She was born on February 11, 1945, in Emporia, Virginia, to the late John W. Jefferson, Sr. and Cherry Wilder Jefferson, and was the beloved grand-daughter of the late Nancy Jefferson. She was vibrant, nurturing and loving.
Jean was a member of the Jefferson Family who founded Jefferson Elementary School, the Jefferson Cemetery and Chapel Hill Baptist Church of Jarratt, Virginia where she gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age and served as an usher as well.
She was educated in the Greensville County Public School System and graduated from Norfolk State University, formerly Norfolk State College in 1967. While attending Norfolk State, Jean worked diligently in the library and pledged the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Her employment included Norfolk City Public Schools as a community worker and school counselor. After employment at Norfolk City Public Schools, she became a co-business owner with her beloved husband and later a manager of Sally’s Beauty Supply until her retirement in 2010.
She joined in the union of marriage on February 11, 1967 with the late Leroy McNair, Jr., of Norfolk, Virginia while attending Norfolk State University. They were blessed with two sons, Keith P. McNair and Damon A. McNair.
Jean leaves to cherish her memories: two sons: Keith P. (Maxine) McNair and Damon A. McNair of Norfolk, VA; two grandsons: Marquis Neverson of San Francisco, CA and Kile P. McNair of Norfolk, VA; eleven siblings: Bernard (Genevieve) Jefferson of Henrico, VA; Agnes J. (William) Fields of Newport News, VA; Gloria Jefferson of Virginia Beach, VA; Charles (Hattie Sue) Jefferson of Emporia, VA; Larry Jefferson of Richmond VA; Shelia Jefferson of McDonough, GA; Perry Jefferson of Ellenwood, GA and Ray (Valerie) Jefferson of Elkton, VA; one sister-in-law, Alberta Davis of Waldorf, MD, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, close relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years, Leroy McNair, Jr., two siblings, John Jefferson, Jr., and Joann V. Jefferson and her beloved grandparents, George Jefferson, Jr. and Nancy Jefferson and Joe and Ruth Wells-Wilder.

November 7, 2019 at 9:12 amI remember the many sleepovers we had a kids and cousin Jean getting on us Keith for roughhousing Damon. Those are times that I will cherish the most and as specially, seeing the smile on cousin Jean’s face. It was always something about her smile and soft voice that made you feel good but at the same time kept us in line. I know cousin Jean is in a better place looking down on you all. I am sorry I was not able to make it, but I am praying for the family and if there is anything you need, I am just a phone call away.
Love,
Marvin Staton
