Forever In Our Hearts

On Saturday, April 11, 2020, Jean Moultrie was called to her eternal rest with her Savior.  Born on September 14, 1932 in South Norfolk, VA, Jean was the oldest daughter of Viola (Cuffee) and James Monroe Ferebee, Jr.’s six children.  Jean was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and was a life-long, proud resident of Norfolk, VA.  Among her many accomplishments, Jean retired from Albano Cleaners, Norfolk, VA after over 40 years of employment.  Though she first attended St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church in Norfolk, VA, she, along with her family, later joined The United House of Prayer for All People, Norfolk, VA.  A firm believer in God, she knew the power of prayer.

To all who knew and loved her, Jean was a trusted, loyal, generous and spirited wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend.  Her many hobbies included ceramics, playing Bingo, solving puzzles/word searches, and watching television shows and movies.  An excellent cook and welcoming host, she delighted in spending time with her loved ones.  Blessed with a quick wit and silver tongue, Jean brought immense joy to all around her and her beautiful soul provided us with a lifetime of happy memories.

She was lovingly greeted in Heaven by her parents, sisters Gladys Bright and Iris Ferebee-Fisher; brothers James “Jimmy” Ferebee and Haywood Cuffee; son Kenneth “Pookie” Sweat; great-granddaughter Scarlett Rose Downs; nephews John Givhan Jr., Joseph Cuffee, Jack Cuffee, and Allan Cuffee; and niece Wanda Wilkerson.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 56 years Leland Moultrie of Norfolk, VA; devoted son Glenn (Naida) Sweat of Chesapeake, VA; faithful daughter Constance (James) Moultrie-Russ of Waddell, AZ; grandchildren Ilena (Scott) Howard, Dena Sweat, Janis (Sammy) Downs, Angela (Anthony) Wade, and Fard Russ; great-grandchildren Sgt. Emil (Kendra) Howard, Jasmine Howard, Sammy “S.J” Downs Jr.; sister Vernell (John) Givhan of Ashland, Massachusetts; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

We will always love and greatly miss our beloved Jean.

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.-

In memory of our wonderfully whimsical Cousin Jean. Jean was strong, wise, and firm all while being compassionate and kind. And delivering it all with an incredible sense of humor. We had so much fun spending time with her; she was an amazing conversationalist. Our family will remember her hospitality and her talent for making a difference in the world. May she rest in eternal peace. She will be sorely missed.
