James Russell Gause

James Russell Gause, 79, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Wednesday, January 22, 2025. James was born to Vera Mae and Russell Gause on November 4, 1945, in Marion, South Carolina.

James attended Marion County Training School in Marion, SC. At the age of 11, his family relocated to Norfolk, Virginia where he attended Ruffner Junior High School. The family then moved to Norfolk County (Chesapeake), VA. There James attended and graduated from Crestwood High School in 1963. He graduated Cum Laude from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, Richmond, VA in 1983.

In 1963, after completing high school, James enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1969. In 1969 he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served until 1973. He was also a Merchant Marine.

After serving in the military, he worked for the City of Richmond Department of Social Services. He retired in June 2001 after 20 years and 4 months of dedicated work, ensuring the well-being of those in need of services. Post-retirement, he continued to be employed in various jobs, including security guard and medical transport driver.

James, affectionately known as “Jimmy”, enjoyed listening to the Bible Broadcasting Network (BBN), reading, surfing the internet, and road trips. Jimmy’s generous spirit was evident in his regular donations to numerous charities and Christian organizations. He desired to help make a positive difference in the world.

James was predeceased in death by his parents Vera Mae and Russell Gause. He is survived by his sister Doristine Gause Earl (Archie); two nieces: Karen Maynor (David) and Keisha Earl; one nephew: Archie Earl, Jr, (Joy); five great nieces: Valencia Maynor, Brandi Maynor (Richard), Zuri Earl-Odom, Journey Earl, and Olivia Earl; three great-nephews: Branigel Maynor, Zion Earl, and Jonah Earl; two great great nephews: Kyedon Maynor and Tevin Mitchell; relatives and friend.
