January 12, 2024 at 11:22 amTo The Family of James Nixon:
I know James will be missed by his family, friends, fraternity brothers and Morganites. James was a loyal and dedicated alum of Morgan State University. He unselfishly served the Tidewater community for many years. May he rest in peace.

January 16, 2024 at 6:59 pmThe South Hampton Roads Alumni Chapter, Morgan State University Alumni Association, extends heartfelt condolences to the Nixon family. Mr. James Nixon, Sr., was one of our Chapter’s seven founders, our touch bearer, and our sage advisor. He received our Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022 on his birthday. He served as Treasurer and was the King of Raffle Fundraisers, each of which were very successful. He appeared at every event and was always eager to do more.
Loyal to the Chapter and to his beloved Morgan, Mr. Nixon leaves a lasting legacy that defines what selfless service to Morgan means.
We thank you, God’s servant and our beloved friend.

January 17, 2024 at 9:32 pmMy condolences and prayers to the family. Mr. Nixon was a wonderful, kind and loving person. He always had a smile on his face when he walked into St. James Episcopal Church Portsmouth. He was a dedicated member, usher, and trustee. He was always willing to help out with any and everything. When we asked him, what we could do to raise money he said a trip to the casino would be a great fundraiser, so he planned that trip for the church. I will never forget the last time I visited with him he was smiling, joking, gave me the thumbs up and the okay sign.
I will leave you with the following In Memory quote “Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear.” -Anonymous

January 17, 2024 at 11:03 pmHe was my first basketball coach over 55 years ago at the YMCA that is located on Effingham Street in Portsmouth. Not just a coach but a mentor and role model, he provided guidance and stability for a large number of young males. He was one of the main reasons that many of us that frequented the “Y”, stayed away from many of the pitfalls that others didn’t. As I look back, I owe “Mr. Nix” for helping to shape me into the person that I am today. He was truly a diamond for our community and we need more like him. Condolences to his family.

January 18, 2024 at 11:05 pmMister Nixon was one of a kind. He help all of those that he could. My wedding reception was at the “Y”. We did our first outreach ministry at the “Y”. He lived next door to us and I saw how he lived. He took care of his family and helped those in trouble. He was a man of integrity. I thank God for knowing him. He truly will be missed. My condolences to the family. When you run alone, it’s called a Race but when you run with God, it’s called Grace. Be Bless, and may Heaven continue to smile upon you.

January 19, 2024 at 3:30 amDear Nixon Family Members:
Pam and I were very sadden to hear of the demise of my friend and Charter Member of the Morgan State University, South Hampton Roads Alumni Chapter. However, during the demise of our family members and friends, we have always found PEACE and CLOSURE in Hebrews 11-16 KJV where GOD has prepared for us Brand New City in a Better Country.
I am certain that your Faith will continue to Sustain you now and in the days to come.

January 20, 2024 at 8:37 amUncle Nick will surely be missed. He was kind, upbeat, always smiling and took the time to listen to you. When I last talked to him a couple of days before he passed you would not know he was sick. His voice was strong and he had a positive outlook. He laughed and jokes he always did. I was shocked to hear of his sudden passing. Rest in Heaven Uncle Nick. Proud to be your Niece.
