On Saturday, November 17, 2018, our bright shining star departed his home to reunite with Heavenly Father at 4:30pm from Duke Medical Center, Durham, NC. This handsome young man James Lewis Walker (BKA) “Bro Bro” was born in Norfolk, VA on September 23, 1956 to Barbara Lee (Walker) Lassiter and the late James L. Walker.
James L. Walker graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and joined the United States Marine Corps where he dedicated the next 20 years before he retired. After retirement, James received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and attended Costal Carolina Community College for Accounting Administration. Thereafter, he proceeded to secure his Associate of Biblical Studies Degree at North Carolina College of Theology. He was also a businessman. James was the Founder, President and proud owner of Jacksonville Pre-owned Quality Cars.
James was indeed a loving and multi-talented man with a heart of gold. James was very dedicated to fulfilling his purpose in the “good work” of the Lord. He was a very popular and hardworking man who never backed down from a challenge. His determination and faithful attitude inspire many especially those he knew and loved. To know James was to love James. There was never a time that he did not strive to give his best to bring joy and smiles to all walks of life. James loved giving back and enjoyed quality family time with a gorgeous smile. James was an amazing son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend.
James was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Skinner (Ethel), Louis Roscoe (Lillie) and Russell Lassiter (Clay, Jr.); sister, Carlice Gatling; uncles, James Waffe, Randolph Lassiter and Ricky Lassiter; mother-in-law, Yvonne K. Johnson and Uncle-in-law, Walter Johnson.
Serving the Lord and the Community
James started his walk with the Lord at a very young age where he attended United House of Prayer. He was a faithful member of Abundant Life International Baptist Cathedral of Jacksonville, NC. His second church home was Faith in Action Church in Norfolk, VA, but his higher calling is and was always serving the Lord.
The following are his present and past titles as a Mason:
Brother James Walker, Torii Lodge #46, Washington State and its Jurisdiction, Inc., Prince Hall Affiliated)
Prince James Walker, 32 degree keystone consistory #85, Washington State and its jurisdiction, Inc., Northern Jurisdiction, Prince Hall Affiliated
Noble James Walker, Obelisk Temple #187, Anary
Past Imperial Potentate Micheal A. Williams Imperial Deputy of the Desert (Far East Asia & USA)
Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, North and South America and its Jurisdictions, Inc. Prince Hall Affiliated.
James had a very strong love for his entire family. He helped each member of his family very near and dear to his heart, especially his devoted wife Joelyn who is better known to him as “Butter.”
James leaves to cherish his memories of 32 years his loving wife, Joelyn and of this union they were blessed with three children: Mr. J. Walker (Tina) of Norfolk, VA, Ms. Janace Walker of Valdosta, GA and Ms. Jacqulyn Walker of Charlotte, NC; mother, Barbara Lassiter: “Pop” Irvin Lassiter; brothers, Sherman Walker and Anthony Walker; sisters, Patricia Epps (Terry), Rosalyn Henderson (Edward) and Harriette Robinson (Parham); uncles, Vincent Skinner (Willie Mae) of Norfolk, VA, Owen Lee Johnson of Norfolk, VA and Russell Lassiter (Shirley) of Ahoskie, NC; aunts, Shirley Flemings and Sue Mae Waffe of Portsmouth, VA, Charlene Hall and Debris Tillery, both of Norfolk; 14 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and additional family members. James had a special bond with his niece, Jada. He loved them all but the will to fight with her through this joint
journey was phenomenal. He would say, “We got this.”

November 21, 2018 at 7:25 pmWords can never express the emotions and sense of loss that we felt upon hearing of James’ passing. Though words will never suffice, please accept these words of condolence from Diana and me. James has conquered the last enemy (1 Corinthians 15:26 (HCSB) The last enemy to be abolished is death.) and in that we should celebrate and rejoice, but it is difficult for us to do so when we will not be blessed with his physical presence. Please know that you are in our prayers.

FOREVER IN YOUR HEART
Feel no guilt in laughter,
he knows how much you care.
Feel no sorrow in a smile,
that he’s not here to share.
You cannot grieve forever,
he would not want you to.
He’d hope that you would carry on,
the way you always do.
So, talk about the good times and the ways you showed you cared.
The days you spent together, all the happiness you shared.
A word someone might say, will suddenly recapture a time,
an hour, a day that brings him back as clearly as though he was still here and fills you with the feelings that say he’s always near.
For if you keep those moments you will never be apart and they will live forever,
safely locked within your heart.

November 23, 2018 at 7:50 pmAunt Jay, Janace, Jackie, and Great Grandma Barbara Lee, my heart and prayers are with you guys while we venture through this tough time. Uncle Bro Bro was a huge inspiration to not only my mother, but the entire family. I’m blessed to have been able to catch his smile and his “I love you” one last time. So glad he could meet Teressia before he earned his wings! I love you all.

February 26, 2022 at 7:33 amIt’s been 3 years since the passing of my father and not a day has went by that I have not thought of him or felt the hole in my heart that he left behind. My son Nike James Walker was learned about the following year on my dad’s (James walker) birthday 9/23 or 2020. Undoubtably a gift and a challenge to go on. I accepted, and on I go…but I hope you are still watching. I love you dad, now and forever…
