“Fatboy Mickins”

James Edward Mickins, Sr., age 71, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Sentara  Norfolk General Hospital. He was born on August 7, 1953, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Mary Lou “Barr” Mickins and Eugene Horatio Mickins. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and was employed with the International Longshore Association (ILA) for over 40 years.

Fatbboy is survived by his children James Mickins Jr. (Yvonne), LaTanya Mickins Cuffee (Mark), and  Milton L. Mickins Sr. (De’ Ahana); grandchildren Jameka Mallory, Malik Walters, Miyah Carlton,  Jameerah Mickins, Delano Glass, Miracle Cuffee, Demarkus Fleming, Milton L. Mickins Jr., Arion Mickins;  great-grandchildren Dijon Stanley and Jamiek Mallory; sister Dorothy Mickins Carrington (Walter deceased); Goddaughter/Niece NaTasha Epps and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, great nieces and nephews, friends and family.

Fatboy is preceded in death by two sisters Mary Helen Mickins-Walcott and Carolyn Ann Mickins  (William “Henny”) and three brothers Fred “Junebug” Mickins, Sylvester “Ninny Bug/Baldy” Mickins, and  William “Woody” Mickins.

Fatboy an ex-football player for Booker T. Highschool could always be found rocking the latest Redskin  or Booker T. High School gear. If he was not flying in his favorite team’s gear, he was dressed to the nines in his best pimp fashions. Forever the ladies’ man, Fatboy kept a joke or a flirtatious comment for all he encountered. If you were a Cowboy fan, you were definitely in for it… Fatboy did not hesitate to let you know those “Cowgirls” did not stand a chance against his hometown team.

Always a food canvasser, Fatboy would eat your food, tell you about it, and go and take a nap. All within an hour or so… His wittiness, light-hearted spirit, and love for the game will always remain in our hearts.  With him, there was never a dull moment… Those who truly knew, Fatboy will always attest to his famous “Glubba Mubba”. You will always be remembered and loved…

“Fly High, My Guy…” Now your team may win, with a winner looking over them!
