With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved James Diggs, who peacefully departed from this world on June 26, 2025. James was a pillar of strength, a beacon of love, and a source of boundless wisdom for all who were fortunate enough to know him.
James, affectionately known as “Jew,” was a retired Longshoreman who devoted his life to his family and sharing joy and wisdom. He served as a deacon at First Lynnhaven Baptist Church in Virginia Beach until he could no longer do so.
James will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and the countless lives he touched throughout his career. His legacy of kindness, professionalism, and selflessness will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
James was born in Princess Anne County and attended Union Kempsville. He later met and married the love of his life, Hattie Watson (deceased). This union was blessed with 64 years and 3 children. He leaves behind a legacy of love, two children: Terrance Diggs (Nicole) and Lorraine Diggs. His children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life, and he instilled in them values of kindness, resilience, and compassion that will endure for generations to come.
He is predeceased by his parents, Caroline and John Diggs; a son, Ronald Diggs; and siblings, John Diggs, Ernest Diggs, Curtis Diggs, and Mary Watson.
In addition to his children, James was blessed with grandchildren: Terrance (TJ), Donovan, Torrey, Taylor, Niya, and Tyler, who brought immeasurable happiness and laughter into his life. He also leaves to cherish his memory, a sister, Susie Anderson, a sister-in-law, Juanita Diggs, and a brother, Charlie Diggs, An Uncle, Alduster Sanderson, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews, and friends who loved him.
While we mourn the loss of James in our lives, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit lives on through the memories we shared with him, the values he imparted, and the love he gave so freely. James’s legacy will continue to inspire us to live with grace, kindness, and love as we carry his memory in our hearts.
James may have left this world, but his love and light will forever shine brightly in our hearts and minds.
