In the early morning of December 19, 2020, James “Hendue” Arnez Henderson entered into eternal peace and rest at Sentara, Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. James was born on June 8, 1941 in Jackson, GA to the late Lois Womack. He completed his education within the Jackson School System and graduated from Henderson High.
After graduation, James joined the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps, he served in Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 23 years of service. James continued his public service through his employment with the City of Norfolk, where he retired after 22 years as the Superintendent of Waste Management. Not one to remain idle, James worked several years as a tractor trailer driver for Nash Finch.
Hendue was a Harley Davidson enthusiast and regularly rode his Harleys with a group of close friends. He loved music, particularly Jazz and was a huge fan of James Brown. Hendue was a great storyteller and jokester. He loved people and he never met a stranger. He also enjoyed the many times he and his retired military buddies fellowshipped at the Golden Coral.
James was predeceased by his loving Aunt and Uncle, Mrs. Alice Arline and Mr. Grover Arline Sr., whom helped raise him, and his brother, Michael Arline (Darlene). James leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 55 years, Regina L. Henderson; a daughter, Angela Hughes (David); a son, Terricko Henderson (Kristen); grandchildren, Taylor, Tori, Cameron, Christian, Trinity, Jasmine, and Jayden, and one great grandchild, C.J.; brothers, Steve Arline, Terry Arline (Agatha), Grover “Chip” Arline Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as two special friends, Rodney and Thomas. He will also be greatly missed by his Rich Avenue family.
Hendue was loved by all who came in contact with him and will truly be missed.

My sincere thoughts, prayers, and condolences are with you all during this difficult time. Mr. Henderson was such a kind man, who meant what he said and did. He didn’t put up with nonsense, and demanded greatness from his family and anyone else who was in his presence. He could make you laugh at all times, his sense of humor will be greatly missed. Terricko, you’ve had a great example of leadership, not only in fatherhood, but manhood as well. Angie, you’ve had a wonderful example of what a great man looks like and how he’s supposed to treat and take care of you. Mrs. Jeannie, I’m praying that God will give you the strength and comfort you need in the days to come. “Big Hendue” will be greatly missed. If there’s a motorcycle club in Heaven, I know he’s already shining up his bike and helmet ready to ride those golden streets. We love you all! ❤️
