Jacqueline Sykes

Sunrise: May 18, 1956

Sunset: November 7, 2024

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, Jacqueline Patricia Lewis Sykes, daughter of Marie Lewis and the late James Mourning transitioned from this earthly realm into eternal peace at the tender age of 68, surrounded by her loved ones.

Jackie was preceded in death by her Grandmother, Ella Mae Lewis Smith, a brother-in-law, John Wilson, Jr., Calvin Rodgers, her friend and love for over 20 years and other family members.

Jackie, as she was known, was born in May 1956 in Norfolk County, now Chesapeake, VA. She was a graduate of Great Bridge High School. After high school, Jackie moved to Texas, where she studied to be a nurse’s aide. Upon returning to VA, Jackie received her license to work as an aide. She loved the elderly, and she had love, patience, and respect for them. Jackie retired in 2006 due to health reasons. The Lord showed favor and healed her.

She would bring life to any event, sad or happy; she would make you laugh. We are going to miss her; it’s not going to be the same when we gather for the holidays and special occasions. Jackie is gone but will not be forgotten.

She had a special bond with her niece, Jael Lewis. Jackie was also an avid Washington Commanders fan. She loved her family and friends.

Jackie is survived by her mother, Marie Lewis; her brother, Ray Lewis (Gail) of Chesapeake, VA; her sisters, Gay Lewis Wilson of Chesapeake, VA and Joann Brown of Richmond, VA; three uncles, Melvin Lewis (Hattie), Robert Cuffee (Karen) all of Chesapeake, VA; and Joseph Christian of Virginia Beach;  great Aunt, Mary Spence of Suffolk, VA; nephews, Jamar, Desi, Kevin, Carlos (Tamara); nieces Vikki (Tay) and Jael; nine great nephews and seven great nieces and a host of cousins and friends.
