Jacqueline Akers-Baskerville

Sunrise: September 9, 1963

Sunset: October 28, 2020

Jacqueline came into this world early in the morning.  On October 28th she earned her wings early in the morning.  Both times, her labor was easy, and she was surrounded by loved ones.

Jacqueline, Jacci / Cookie, Yvette Akers- Baskerville, was born on Monday, September 9th, 1963 to Rosa Ives and William Akers Sr.  Jacci married Fred Baskerville Sr and from their union came one son, Fred Baskerville Jr. At an early age, Jacci found Christ at Greater Metropolitan AMEZ.  As an adult she continued to cultivate her relationship with Christ, joining Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church. Cookie was a woman of great faith.

In her youth, Jacci was very creative and interested in the arts.  She displayed an affinity for dance.  She was oh so graceful.

Jacci graduated from Granby High School in 1981.  At age 17 she entered a career as a civil servant. In this role she was able to not only work hard but also participate in numerous community-focused endeavors helping with Toys for Tots, school supply drives as well as fundraisers to help others.  She continued in federal service until her health declined. Her philanthropy and commitment to the community did not end there.  Cookie was actively involved in the 81’ Alumni Class of Granby High School.  Jacci was also involved in several nonprofit and charitable organizations that she loved dearly.  She loved doing her share of volunteering and helping others.  Some of the organizations included The Auxiliary to the A.E.A.O.N.M.S (Arabia Court #23) Portsmouth VA, The Golden Circle, The Order of Eastern Star PHA, and The Ladies of the Circle of Perfection.  Cookie loved life and life loved her.  She wasn’t afraid to pursue the most difficult tasks.   During her life, she exhibited and developed many skills and talents. She was known for her beautiful and delicious baked confections and scrumptious catering.  Jacci was also known for her decorating and beautiful artwork. She left sparkle and flare on every project she touched.

As the curtain of life is drawn, she leaves to cherish her fond memories, one son, Fred Baskerville, her mother Rosa Akers Couther and father William Akers Sr., two brothers and three sisters, William Akers Jr. (Cathy), Anthony Bright, Ebonie Robinson (Shawn), Shannon Akers (Chris Marinoff), Crystal Regignano (Joel) 5 nephews, 5 nieces a host of family, friends and loved ones. Jacci’s yearbook quote was “I met you as a stranger, I took you as a friend.  We will meet again in heaven where our friendship will never end.”
