Jackie Hunter

Sunrise: July 10, 1954

Sunset: December 27, 2023

On December 27, 2023, our Heavenly Father opened the gates of HIS kingdom and placed Jackie Hunter amongst HIS angels.  Jackie was born July 10, 1954, in Opelika, Alabama to Emma Jean Hunter and the late Roger Hunter.  He was their only son.

Jackie was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System graduating from Manor High School in 1973.  He was a student athlete while attending high school where he played basketball at Cradock High School, wrestled and was one of the best in the Southeastern District.  He also played softball on the Bluejays team.

He attended Norfolk State University, then went on to The Welding School in Baltimore, MD where he obtained numerous welding certifications by passing the Welder’s Performance Qualification Tests.  Jackie worked as a welder for many years.  He also decided to work for himself and formed “Hunter’s Welding”.

He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, so much that his daughter followed in his footsteps and became a fan.

Jackie is predeceased by his father, Roger Hunter.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and dedicated wife, Jo Bobbi Hunter; his mother, Emma Jean Hunter; one daughter, Kristen L. Hunter; two sisters, Brenda J. Hunter and Deborah Sawyer; one brother, Nate Brown and one granddaughter, Tatyana A. Grant. Jackie is also survived by his bonus children and grandchildren, Jamie C. Cherry, Ronni E. Griffin, Christopher F. Griffin, Micah J. Smith and a very special little girl, Jovani L. Mack. Also, a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Jackie’s smile, kind heart, good cooking, big personality and love for life will be remembered and cherished forever.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all that knew him.
