Ivy Walker Newsome

Adopted daughter of John Gross Walker and Ethel Hawkins Walker. Ivey was born on August 15,1949 at Portsmouth General Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. Ivy attended I. C. Norcum High School. She graduated from Mercer Voc. School of Practical Nurses In New Jersey in 1975. In 1978-1979 She worked at Maryview Hospital. She also worked at South Side Community Hospital south Hill.

In 1979 -1980 Ivy joined the U.S. ARMY Reserves at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. She was part of EVAC Mobile Surgical Unit from 1981to 1983 and a O. R. Tech at San Rosa for eight years. She was also employed at Hunter Medical Center, Richmond, VA1990untill august 31,2011, where she retired after working for 21 years. She was a member of the VFW Post 190 of Portsmouth, VA.

Ivy was predeceased in death by her only brother Michael B Walker who died June 16,1987. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Joshua Gholston; nieces, Shelbin Lexus Riddick Walker, Chrystal Watson, Ashley Wray; sister in laws, Gloria Riddick Walker, Regina Mason Wray; adopted sister, Willie Thomas Green; friend, Regina Morris; and all of her Norfolk and Richmond family.

Our loved ones are a gift to us. After they are gone, we remember and we celebrate the life they lived, the love they shared, the difference the made in our lives. Always remember all our love ones that have passed want the best for us. They want us to continue with our lives and be happy in doing so. We can keep Ivy’s memory alive by remembering the good times and sharing those memories with others.
