Isabelle Tucker Nowell

Our heavenly father called home another one of his loving angels Mrs. Isabelle (Tucker) Nowell on May 17, 2022. He needed one of His beautiful flowers to adorn his garden. Isabelle was born on August 10, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Thurston and Ernestine Tucker of Chicago, IL. 

Although born in Philadelphia, PA, she was raised in Chicago, IL. In Chicago, she met and later married the Reverend Earl Nowell. Born to them had been their three children Arthur Matthews Nowell (Lorraine), Kevin Darrin Nowell (Annette), and Stephanie Colet Nowell. The Reverend Earl and Isabelle Nowell had previously resided in Brooklyn, New York before finally settling in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Isabelle joined and faithfully served in the ministry at Noble Street Baptist Church of Portsmouth, Virginia for 12 years. She served in the area of Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Food services. In 1997 her husband was call to Pastor a church at Metompkin Baptist Church, Parksley, Virginia for 10 years. There she served as first lady and dedicated her work in the Youth Ministry.

Isabelle had been an employee for Portsmouth Public Schools, Portsmouth, VA and after 21 years of faithful service, she retired in 2012.   In retirement Isabelle volunteered for the non-profit organizations Community Outreach Coalition as there Youth Outreach Assistance (2012-2014) and Uniting Youth in Action (UYA) as there Administrative Assistance and Bookkeeper (2014-2019). Throughout her life, Isabelle had been a loving wife, mother, and friend.  Isabelle loved her family and always made sure they came first. Isabelle strived to be the best Auntie to all her nieces and nephews as if they were her own.  

Isabelle’s beautiful life will forever be remembered and cherished in the hearts of her loving husband the Reverend Earl Nowell, devoted children, her grandson Akenshia Nowell and her granddaughter Samya C. Nowell, sister-in-laws, brother-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. 

Isabelle is survived by her brothers; Willie M. Tucker, Frederick Tucker, Dennis Tucker and sister; Rochelle D. Tucker all from Chicago, IL.

Isabelle especially will be remembered for her beautiful smile and the loved she had for her family.
