Irene Peguese Morring, the first of the eight children born to the late David Faulcon, Sr. and Effie Mae Faulcon, was born on January 13, 1929, in Littleton, North Carolina. She peacefully departed this earthly life on Monday, December 12, 2022, at Princess Anne Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. During her early life, Irene accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and continued her spiritual journey into her transition.
Irene received her early formal education in the Halifax County Public School System. She graduated in 1947 as class valedictorian from the former McIver High School in Littleton, NC.
In her adolescent years, Irene spent a lot of time caring for her younger siblings. She was a member of the junior choir, and glee club, and enjoyed playing the piano. Irene moved to Norfolk, Virginia in 1947 shortly after high school graduation. She worked several different jobs to support herself and her family. She could have easily been described as a workaholic. She was a seamstress, a certified cosmetologist, a certified nursing assistant, and a Deputy Sheriff. In 1966 she became a federal government civil servant aircraft mechanic at NAS Naval Air Rework Facility in Norfolk, Virginia. Irene was a trailblazer as not the only female in her division but the only black female in her division. She had a very successful career and received many awards and certifications. She would remain employed as an aircraft mechanic until her retirement in 1988.
Irene loved her family and friends. She truly never met a stranger. Irene welcomed anyone into her home and treated everyone like family. Irene was active in her community. She was well known to her neighbors as a very likable and caring person. People often came to her house for a meal, a social sip, a friendly conversation, or a friendly game of cards. She loved playing solitaire and completing her daily crossword puzzles. After her retirement, she frequently traveled with her friends on day trips to Dover Downs.
She was a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star, Habakkuk, Chapter No. 493.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by sisters, Nena F. Barrett and Christine Faulcon; brothers, David Faulcon, Jr., Lenwood Faulcon, Sr., and Curtis W. Faulcon, Sr.; ex-husbands, Fred Peguese, Sr., Charlie Morring; sons, Clinton M. Peguese, Carl “Bubba” L. Peguese, and Gerald W. Peguese; and granddaughter, Meshell Cartwright.
Those left to cherish the precious memory of her life are sisters, Josephine Haley of Richmond, VA and Annie Parrish (Melvin) of Chapel Hill, NC; daughters, Ruby Solomon of Durham and Joyce (Clarence) Grimes of Raleigh, NC; bonus daughter-in-law Shelia Eason of Norfolk Va., sons, Fred (Loretta) Peguese, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA, Alonza (Patricia) Peguese Sr. of Norfolk, VA; sisters-in-law, Martha Faulcon of Littleton, NC and Lula Faulcon of Virginia Beach, VA; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Very special Thanks to Fred and Loretta Peguese for being loving caretakers.
