Ira Ellsworth McCoy

Ira Ellsworth McCoy, 64, transitioned peacefully to his heavenly home on May 8, 2018. He was born to the late George B. McCoy and Ruth W. McCoy. He earned his diploma from Norview High School in 1972 after which he completed the Pipefitters/Plumbing Apprenticeship. Later on he served, as a licensed journeyman and as a member of the Plumbers/Pipefitters Union for a period of 35 years. He became CEO/Owner of his own business, “First Class Plumber and Heating Company”. In March of 1993, Mr. McCoy furthered his employment experience in which he was hired by Ford  Motor Company, and he was a member of UAW919. He remainedthere until his retirement in September of 2007. Ira was a man of integrity, strong willed and walked in authority. He served as a former Deacon at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. A few of Ira’s favorite past times was nature watching, having biblical discussions and singing in which he accredited to his mother.

Ira was preceded in death by his beloved older brother George B. McCoy Jr., however in his loving memory, Ira leaves to cherish his four children; one son, James T. McCoy and three daughters; Lae’h McCoy-Lassiter, Lauren McCoy and Laina McCoy. He also leaves to cherish his six sisters and their spouses; Bernadette M. White (David), Angela D. Perry-McCoy, Cherryl M. Garris, Gay M. James-Parson (Alfred), Gale M. Franks (Carl), Sonja McCoy as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews

    JT, Laeh, Lauren, and Laina – Ira will always hold a special place in my heart. I know you miss him terribly, but find peace in the good times and memories you made together, and rejoice that he is no longer in any pain. Ira was a Godly man, who you can rest assured is now at peace with Jesus. I love you all, and please know that I am here for you!

    Sorry to hear of Ira’s passing. He was a quiet person in elementary school but I always asked how he was doing thru this sisters because I never saw him around. The family has always been friendly with a smile when you see one of them. Surely he will be missed by all that knew him.

    So so sad to hear of Ira passing. I remember living in Bowling Park where we grow up! Ira use to always say or do something funny and I would laugh so hard. May God comfort the McCoy family. Much love!

    I am so sorry to learn of Ira’s sudden passing. It had been years since I had seen him, however, when I last did, he was saved and filled with the spirit of God. Although I am sure he is joyfully in the presence of God, I know that this is hard for you as his family and I will keep you in prayer during this difficult time.

    I remember you all from Bowling Park. Just know that according to God’s word one day death will be swallowed up and there will be no more death, crying, tears mourning or pain.

    To the McCoy family members, I am sorry for the lost of Brother Ira. Ira and I were very good friends. It saddened my heart to hear of his transition. I planned on attending the services but health complications got in the way. He will surely be missed and was loved by many.
