Idell Pope

Idell Pope was born on May 17, 1926 in Franklin, VA to Roy L. Higgs, Sr. and Liller Myrick.  She was raised in Suffolk, VA by her mother Liller Myrick.  Idell had one brother, Roy L. Higgs, Jr.  She was predeceased by her parents, brother and husband, Thomas Pope.

Idell was married to the late Thomas Andrew Dugger, and later divorced in 1956.  She relocated to New York, New York where she resided for many years.  Idell returned to Suffolk, VA after retirement.

In May 1995, she married Thomas Pope.  Idell had no children of her own.  She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church where she attended faithfully until her health declined and she was no longer able to attend.

Odell is survived by two nephews: Danny Hill (Sheila) and Travis Mayo (Shawanna), both of Portsmouth, VA; devoted grandsons, Robert and Mann of Suffolk, VA; several cousins, Julia Myrick Bradley of Suffolk, VA, Doris Cooper (Buckle) Tampa Florida, Blanche Hill Gibbons (Walter), Joe Frank Hill, Jr of Como, NC, Annette Britt Cutler (Dexter) of Chesapeake, VA, Henry Lee Britt of Franklin, VA and Leroy Andrews of Suffolk, VA; devoted caregivers, Mazie Ford, Cleo Myrick, Julia C. Bradley, Julie Butler, Maxine Jordan, Tavonne Boone and Faye Jones.  She is also survived by other relatives and friends. A great great thank you to Heartland Hospice.
