Hubert Kearney, Sr. grew up in Raleigh NC. He is the fourth child of twelve, born to the late Robert and Lucy Kearney. Hubert loved God, family, service, and golf. He was ordained as a Deacon at Money Point Baptist Church and served there faithfully, as well as at several other churches where he had membership over the years.
Hubert cherished his entire family and they loved and respected him because he was such a role model for them. He was a strong foundation who never wavered in his faith and his convictions.
A veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, Hubert retired from the U. S. Army as a Master Sergeant, following 31 years of decorated and honorable service to his country. An avid golfer, he was nicknamed “Long-knocker” because of his excellence on the course. On February 10, 2019, the Lord called Hubert home to his eternal rest and reward.
He is predeceased by his former wife, Erma O. Kearney, and 5 children, Sophia, Ivory, Caboosie, and Robert Kearney, and Hilda Silvels. Hubert leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Geraldine Kearney, of Suffolk, VA; two brothers, Howard Kearney (Bessie) and Franklin Kearney (Patricia), both of Raleigh, NC; nine children: Hubert “Duke” Kearney, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia; William “Butch” Kearney (Razzie) of Raleigh NC; Kathy Berkley (Michael) and Denise Williams, both of Garner NC; Donald Speller (Alice) of Chesapeake, Virginia; Regina Butler (Tommy) of Sarasota, Florida; Julius Speller (Mariah) of Norfolk, Virginia; Valerie Walton (Harold) and Craig Speller (Sabrina), both of Suffolk, Virginia; and a host of grandchildren, generations of great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
