Horace Burrell, age 69, peacefully transitioned into eternal life with our Lord and Savior on November 20, 2024, in Chesapeake, Virginia. He was born on July 24, 1955, in Norfolk, Virginia, and resided in Maryland for many years before becoming a resident of Portsmouth, Virginia. He was the son of the late Edwin Burrell, Sr. and Lillie Mae Burrell of Chesapeake, Virginia.
Horace graduated from Lake Taylor High School. After high school, he joined the Air Force and later obtained higher education degrees from the University of Maryland University College and the University of Maryland Global Campus. He retired in March 2024 after dedicating over 24 years to Montgomery College. Horace was an entrepreneur and lifelong learner. He took great pride in serving his clients as a registered tax preparer and planner through his business, B&P Financial Services.
Horace was a member of the Maryland Society of Accounting and Tax Professionals. He devoted much of his time to promoting financial literacy within the community, earning recognition for his contributions from the Montgomery County Public Schools Office of Community Engagement and Partnerships.
He is survived by his children, Chris Burrell (Shaynita) of Norfolk, VA, Dr. Amber Richey (Bryan) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Ashley Burrell (Torey) of Fort Worth, Texas. Horace was blessed to receive an abundance of love and joy from his grandchildren: Terice Burrell, Nyah Burrell, NynCoby Burrell, Kyra Burrell, Jayla Burrell, Caitlyn Richey, Bryan Richey Jr., Laelah Burrell-Erie, Cebri Ford, Kamryn Burrell-Erie, Elijah Gore, Zahariah Gore, and Torey Gore II; as well as from his great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He will forever be cherished by his siblings Edwin Burrell, Jr. (Cathy), Deborah Providence, Wendy Ford, Andre Burrell, and Douglas Burrell (Natalie), and memories will continue of his brothers, Benjamin and Byron Burrell, who preceded him in death.
Horace will truly be missed and will forever remain in our hearts.

December 2, 2024 at 3:42 pmSending grace and peace to the family of Horace. He was a light and joy at Montgomery College – always a smile and word of encouragement for his colleagues and what he did for our students!!! Because of Horace, so many students were encouraged to stay in school and change the trajectory of their lives. He was kindness and laughter and grace. We were blessed to have him at MC.
