Hermenia P. Elliott

Sunrise: August 24, 1932

Sunset: August 22, 2021

God almighty sent forth His angel to earth, for He needed a loyal and devoted servant to help Him with His glorious work in heaven.  Hermenia passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2021.

Hermenia Elliott was born on August 24, 1932 in Georgetown, South Carolina to the late Nathaniel Palmer and Matilda J. Martin.  Her Mother, Matilda Martin passed away three months after giving birth to Hermenia. She was raised by her loving her Aunt, Nancy Moss of Sandy Island, Georgetown, SC.

Hermenia was a product of Portsmouth Public School System. She was a graduate of I.C. Norcom High School.  She was employed with Westwood Cleaners and retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

Hermenia accepted Christ at an early age and was a very proud member of Union Branch Baptist Church of Corapeake, NC.

Hermenia was formerly joined in holy matrimony to William Lloyd Elliott, Sr. for 48 years. To this union three children were born.  She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. Hermenia loved her family and her family loved her.  She cooked with love, she cleaned even when she was weak and would give her last. As long as her children were good, she was good.  God gave us a lifetime of joy by having her as our mom. We will forever treasure you, mom.  We are a reflection of your love. We will continue to uphold that legacy with pride and honor. We are the men that we are today because of you and we will continue to instill in our family the tools that you equipped us with.

She was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Emily Elliott of Corapeake, NC and grandson, Antonio “Tony” Elliott of VA.  Hermenia leaves to cherish her precious memories; two sons, Steven Elliott (Patricia) of South Mills, NC and William Lloyd Elliott, Jr, (Linda) of Shiloh, NC; two granddaughters, Sanita Elliott of Portsmouth and Tonya Knight of South Mills, NC; four grandsons, Dwight Elliott of Portsmouth, VA, Jermaine Elliott of Portsmouth, VA, Eric Hill of MD and Steven Wright of Richmond, VA; one sister, Doris Vann of NY; special nephews, Kevin Vann, NY,  Daryl Vann (Angela) NY, and Wade Lance, NY and a host of other relatives and friends.
