Henry Coakley

Henry Coakley, passed peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in Virginia Beach, VA.   

Mr. Coakley was born August 8, 1950, to the late John Miranda and Emma Craig Coakley in Providence, Rhode Island.  He was the third of six children.  He was everyone’s favorite uncle and was affectionately called Poppie by loved ones.       

Henry was educated in the public school system of Providence, Rhode Island.  He also attended and participated in an auto trade school and worked in the home improvement industry.  Henry served in the United States Navy for a short while where he was honorably discharged.    Henry was united in holy matrimony with Deborah Coakley of Providence, Rhode Island.  From this union, there were two children, Tanisha Porter, and Tammy Coakley. His other children who were also born out of love are Jason Coakley and Dionne Lassiter, His children that preceded him in death are Shawn Baker, Sr., Darnell and Darryl Jennings.  His granddaughter, Kayla Kamell Coakley, lived with and cared for Henry in his later days.    

He leaves many family members and friends to cherish his memory forever including 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.   His sister and brothers Barbara McLeod, Kenneth Coakley, and John “Butchie” Miranda preceded him in death.  He leaves his sister, Helen Britt of Upper Marlboro, MD, John Coakley of Virginia Beach, VA, and Anthony Coakley of Laurel, MD.  He has a host of nieces and nephews who will be forever saddened by his passing and will miss him.
